318i e46 starts but dies down within 3seconds

Hi Folks!
This is my first time posting here and I hope I will find help.I have a BMW 318i e46 2004 model and its doing funny things.
When I start it,its either it just goes up and dies within 3seconds or it starts up but will not rev.
Have checked my pump and its perfect,could it be the maf sensor or the vvt?
Your help will be much appreciated.

check your cam and crank sensor.

Crank Position Sensor, no doubt. Usually change them both and replace with OEM if possible. Good luck

If it only does it when the car's hot, it might be the idle control valve that's sticking.

@BillyBob it does even when the engine is cold,actually the car isn't moving as it is,when I start it it just goes up and within 3seconds it dies away.will buy the sensors and see what happens

Hi all!
Thank you for your help,I have changed the sensors but still the problem still persists so I took the guy with a diagnostics machine in and its pointing to code P0223 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch B circuit high,then Code P1637 throttle valve position control,control deviation and the last one is Code P1611 serial communication link transmission control module.
So what do I do?

howzit man the other day i had the same problem and it was my fuel pump, check that first before you do anything else :thumbs:

@beezo,I did check the pump actually it was the first thing I did and its fine.

because i tested it, at first check it was spraying the petrol thru but if you hold it long enough it just stopped spraying so just make sire you check it properly, but if its fine then i dont know and goodluck let us know what the cause is :thumbs:
