3 Series road noise

I hear lots of groaning noises from the car - seemingly from the doors. Sounds like plastic, rubber, leather panels rubbing together. What has been others experience with the car?

this occurs at low speeds on small bumps.

Mt car is a 2014 328 with 15k on the clock.

Thanks,
Derrick

My E46 does some of the groaning as well when the car is twisted, like going over an uneven bump, but so did all the other cars I owned. Guess if a car is unable to flex it will break at some point ...

My F30 320d had a lot of wind noise and a loose panel on the steering column that BMW could never fix it rattled like crazy... (Rosslyn special?)

My new cab luckily does not suffer from this at all... I read many 'how to fix rattle' threads on bimmerpost just never got around to stripping it and checking myself..

None of mine had / have noises like this.. Only the 320d... Hence my conclusion.

Take it back and let them sort it! They might replace door beading, did that one my old one too.

Howzit Derrick
3 of my mates had this issue.
Initially bmw was trying to grease the rubber on the doors.
Now apparently they have a kit that they need to order. Think its some sort of plastic film they put on the door rubbers.
Auto Umhlanga & Ballito AutoHaud are aware of the problem.

Hope that helps

Hi guys,

We can sort this out for you at zambesi auto.

Is your car a f30 msport with the high gloss black gutter beading?

There are 2 options, 3M tape on your original bearings if you prefer the high gloss black or we swop the bearings for Matt black, satin ali or chrome.

You welcome to give me a call at work.

Just curious. What 3M tape do they use.

I'd need to check the part number but it looks like a clear "Sellotape".

It a ultra low friction surface, apparently e36 had a similar issue but it was before my time.

Thank you - Is it only Zambesi that can sort it out, or can I take it to any other dealer?
Zambesi is a bit out of my way.

Thanks

Had the same issue on my 7-er. Every time you go over a speed bump it would sound like a creaky old wooden barge. I applied silicone spray to all the rubber and plastic bits around the doors, and it is now completely silent.

Yes checked now on my Sisters e46 and it also has a tape on the beading but its much stronger than "Sellotape" . Part number would be appreciated and I think I will give it a try. I think it should be there but They left it out for Cost saving

Thanks

Had creaking noises when going over bumps and driveways. Took it to our workshop and they cleaned and greased the rubbers and its sorted now. Book it in

"Groaning" is a common problem and is usually caused by wax deposits rubbing against the upper beading (that felt-like part lining the top of the door).

Apart from cleaning the paint in that portion thoroughly, the easiest solution (believe it or not) is to spread a thin layer of Vaseline on the felt.

Trust me, it works!
