2015 335i F30 or 2012 F10 M5

As per the topic,
which would be your choice, and reason why or why not.
Note that the cost of the M5 is ~R100k more.

I keep gravitating towards the M5 but yeah, I'm afraid of a 5 year old car, coming out of plan. Mileage is around 50k kms on the M5.

Will need an aftermarket/BMW warranty because I wouldn't have R100k laying around should something on the M5 go pop.
No need to worry about that on the F30.

The difference between the F10 and F30 is immense, between M and non M even more so. M5 represents seriously good value currently, especially the 2012 models. 335 on the other hand commands a premium, and as you say the prices are quite close.

You get infinitely more car for your money with the M5. Plan can be extended for another two years - not sure if anyone has priced the time extension on an M5 as I know the prices on M models are almost double that of the normal models.

Anyway, if the man maths can be massaged to work out, M5 all the way. You will never look back.

I can understand the eagerness to go M5, and yes motorplan for another 2 years is an option, but my concern has always been - what happens after those 2 years ? Keep it and maintenance could become very, very costly, or sell it, but at what price seeing as though it's then another 2 years older.

So it's terribly sad to go newer and buy less car, just to play it safe. Tough choice, good luck with the decision, because I agree, there is a big difference between M5 and a 335.

Heart vs Head decision.
Practical (sensible) would be 335i. But for me cars don't fall into the practical/sensible decisions.
M5 will probably hold its value better, but will cost more to maintain/look after due to being out of plan. I reckon over a couple of years the M5 will cost about the same to maintain as what a new 335i will deprecate. So overall costs you R100k-R200k more?

There aren't any major issues that I've come across on stock cars. In the last 2 years I have had to do turbo coolant hoses and breather pipes which both weren't over R3500 (and charged to plan anyway). One wheel bearing was re-greased/serviced. Front discs and pads at about 60000km under plan. They recently replaced spark plugs. That is about it. I have had a rattly valve/flap on the exhaust but nothing Q20 didn't fix.

Fuel consumption is excellent for something of this kind to the extent that you can daily it. Trust me and the others above when I say there is NOTHING like driving an M5 daily. Totally fallen in love with it and I have no desire to change it.

110000km/Nov 2018 cost R22K and I am going to extend to 130000km/Nov 2019 when the car eventually hits 90000km and current estimate I have for that is around R33K. It depends on the car though I suppose. Doubt I will hit that mileage by 2019 and I have no desire to change cars. When the G90 comes out I will still keep this one even if I buy one.

If something breaks out of plan it is going to be expensive.... like any performance car. And just like any performance car you must check oil regularly, make sure you attend to any minor issues timeously, not hesitate to fit good quality/OEM parts etc. What is 'expensive' maintenance is different to different people. These cars make over 400kw on the wheels stock according to local dynos... I don't think you will get more power more reliably without modifying in a package that can be daily driven with motorplan etc. included.

I say do it but I am biased LOL. There are also some absolute DOGS out there so please check carefully when buying. Don't trust reports.

M5 is pretty much an opposite of a weekend car. It was made to be a daily driver, that you can unleash when an opportunity presents itself.

Immense differences between the 2 ofcourse! However, even though I own a 335i, its a no brainer to go with the M car!! There's also HUGE modding potential sitting under that hood - if you care to go that route. If given the chance, a car at the right price and spec, I would give up the 335i for an M5.

So extend the plan and GO FOR IT!!!!:rollsmile:

I'd say it all depends on what your plans are:

Daily - F30 definitely
Weekender - M5!!

So get a cheap ass run around and enjoy the M5 on weekends.. :rollsmile:

Like Kristen Lee said in her M5 video, the M5 has a dual personality haha it can be what you want it to be (daily or performance car). With the extended motorplan surely you will be stress free. An ///M5 is one of a kind and not everyone can own one, the opportunity has presented itself to you hehe.
