2014 f30 320d ZF Gearbox repair Durban

Hi Guys,

Urgent need of some help, my box just starting slipping out of the blue , no issues before. No reverse and when it goes in drive it slips as torque builds and car starts jerking and then it feels like its in Neutral.

Is there anyone based in Durban that can assist?

ok so i called multiple guys and all say it needs to be repaired/rebuilt. I haven't used anyone of these guys before so has anyone with experience with any of these shops? Prices range from 32k to 60k.

Ricardo - he's apparently back very recently. I serviced my box about 4yrs ago with him.

Any experience's will be most welcome.

I use X-R8d Performance for any additional maintenance outside of normal services at BMW. Always received great service, advice, and workmanship. No complaints from my side.

I used Ricardo back in 2021 to do the gearbox service on my car. Also had a good experience with him.

Those price differences are huge! Wonder why there's such a big gap. Have you asked each shop what exactly they're planning to do? Might give you a better idea of who's offering the best value. Good luck with it all!

I think Ricardo would be the most experienced with this having worked for ZF themselves.

Also agree on the pricing gap though so that is another factor to consider.

Also check with ZF Jhb workshop to get a market related price from the manufacturer themselves.

What is the mileage on the car? Very rare you see gear box failures, unlike VAG counterparts.

dont mean to derail but was just wondering, at these prices you mention for a repair wont it be more economical to get a used box? plenty scrapyards out there selling them, a low miler box in good condition can be picked up for less than 50k im sure
