good day gents,

as the topic says this or that or thaaat.

so i looked at a car today.
2011 e90 320d m sport pack
auto
white
xenons
sunroof
pdf
hi sound
had 129kkm on the clock.

then i was also looking at a 325i e92 2009 with 134kkm
space grey - silver
exclusive pack
auto

so i test drove the 320d, steering made a slight whiney sound went turning slightly either way.
suspension was too hard, better than my bros 2004 e46 318i m sport.
the car wasnt as nippy as i thought it would be.
first time driving a 320d

i have driven a 325i, manual though, but was quite nippy and felt like more power.
thing, is should i bite the bullet on the D, or keep looking.
i was initially looking for an e86 3.0si coupe z4, but cant find the spec in the one i want and i am starting to need a car more urgently.
so what to do.

Tell us more about your needs, so we can make a recommendation....

How far do you drive per year, are you more of a petrol head of are you chasing efficiency?

Both solid choices...

on a daily basis....
i walk 2mins to work. hahahahaha. sorry.
so my office is 2min walk. my folks place 3km. gym 4-5km away.
max i'd do on an easy day is 10km.
if i go to town 32km return. i do minimal mileage.

i had a golf 4 previously, back doors were mostly used to open for me to put my bags in.
i want something thats fun to drive. economy i dont think means much when you drive in residential areas mostly and everything in cape town is so close.
2 doors would be 1st prize. but i can live with 4 doors.

If that's your scenario,
I would opt for a manual E9X 330i if possible.

Solid motors and very fun to drive hard.
To some extent, I believe they are more efficient than the 325i.

To be honest I would go for an e90 330d.

Extremely fun vehicle! Fuel efficient and reliable . If you do get bored, it would be possible to increase the performance pretty easily with a flash.

isnt that kms a bit high? i was afraid of the 320d with 129kkm?
i thought i would set max kms 130kkm, and pref something below 125 120kkm

For these engines, 130 000 km is nothing. Of course, the car needs to be maintained and serviced at regular intervals.

I'm currently driving at 06 e90 320d, car has about 151 000 km on the clock and doesn't skip a beat. But take into account the car is serviced every 10 000km and has been fitted with a downpipe and remap.

No offense but that 330d has some heavy wear on the front seat. then also, the front bumper, bonnet and rear bumper has been resprayed with an unmatching colour which in silver pokes out like a sore thumb. I had one, the guys got it it wrong on the rear bumper when they resprayed a scratch and ja..terrible...

Not a bad choice.

Seeing that you dont really drive much, I dont think economy is that important. I can only imagine that 330i around the twisties in CT. That, coming from a die hard diesel fan.

I owned that exact car (same year, model, spec, also manual). Excellent value for the price, maybe not a bad starting place for a foundation to your search.

Diesel engines don't like short trips. They take much longer than petrol to warm up. I'd consider a E90 330i.

Agree with MSM here.

If you're doing short trips like that mostly. Don't get a diesel. Diesel engines need to go through a full heat cycle

Didn't read this entire thread but to the OP - those are decent options. The diesel will be practical for use and economy, reliable engine as well however the e92 is gorgeous and has good power. I'd go e92 unless you need back doors :praise:

Within that budget I would try find a 330i for sure. At the coast that will be a massively enjoyable car.

A 330d would be great, but I wouldn’t try fond one within your budget as it could more than likely be a lemon.

10KM a day...

You should get a V8.

:smilebounce:

EDIT : Jokes aside, for R170k you can get a very clean and well spec'd E90 330i

Shew!
thanks for the advice gents.
i see you only get the 330i in a 4 door. none in spec that i like.

how about a 325i? would be the E92. hoping it gets looks at this weekend.
then i found a 125i coupe, 125kkm.

the 320d is a 1 owner car, next service he says is oil change. brakes were done at 100kkm, so should last 50kkm. brake pads and new disks he says.
