2011 320d normal fuel consumption?

I've had my 320d for three weeks now. One tank I did was commuting between Kya Sands and Pta using the N14, other tank was for a weekend to Lydenburg, mainly driving on the N4.

The vehicle stats say I should be getting 4.7 L/100km on the open road and 5.7 combined cycle. Both these refills gave a usage of about 6.5. I didn't do massive acceleration or speeding, sticking to 120km/h. Tyres are Run flat, all up to the correct pressure.

The car has 77000km on the clock. Is this difference in consumption normal? Should I mention it to BMW, will they be able to do something about it?

6.5 sounds about right...

Remember there are many other factors that will influence your consumption figures: e.g.: weight, climatic factors (wind, rain, high/low ambient temperatures), personal driving style and condition of tires are but a few.

 your car is 100%. If you travel on a level road with no major hills doing a constant 80 or 100km/h with cruise control on then you will achieve their figures.

we just saw smartiesman do 4.4L/100km on a trip to durbs. As i understand his car doesnt have software and has over 200k mileage.

each car is different and is in a different state of service and tune. BMW dont look after the car like how fanatics do.

It also depends how you drive. And its logical its down hill all the way down to sea level. Should check consumption from Durban to JHB direction. Just an suggestion

Hi

I have an E90, 320D as well and combined on mine goes to 5.7L/100km and its a 2009 model. I think the guys are correct the gradience of the road, load and the way you drive plays a big role. But I advise you put Cruise Control, it seems to regulate fuel better that a human foot.

How many km did one tank give you?
Those aren't bad, but they can go down a bit.
I used to get 6.5l/100km when doing 30-50km above national speed limit and going down to Durban was like a dream.

Don't worry too much about it - 6.5 sounds good as an average. Mine currently says 10.1 and I'm sweating, but as soon as I travel long, cruise control at 85 or so, it will average 4.6 - 5. I also noticed the BP fuel I get makes the consumption increase 0.5 or so.
