hi guys

my 2008 118i has started to shudder when trying to use accelerator whilst releasing the clutch. If I leave the clutch first till it takes and then use the accelerator then there is no shudder. If I drive and change gears intermittently it struggles to go in without a slight knock or resistance. if I gear down to come to a stop and release the clutch it shudders. Now I am told about some or other valve or bearing ?? I though it was my clutch but then it would shudder without me leaving the accelerator too right?:dunnoanymore:

does the clutch pedal feel harder than usual??
to me, first thing that comes to mind is Pressure plate/Flywheel..
When they have those brown burnt spots on them , then they tend to cause this shudder

engine Mounts also maybe...

I haven't opened it up as yet, but if it was flywheel wouldn't it shudder too if I only released the clutch without any accelerator, as it only shudders when I try apply the accelerator at the same time whilst releasing the clutch as one would normally do when pulling off? as for the clutch itself, there has been no difference whatsoever except for the other morning when it felt like it collapsed and it in all the way but then came back out and never did it again. It was under extreme cold start [I was late] never before or again have I experienced that.

Your Flywheel is probably a Dual mass unit.

What is the mileage on the car now?

SO you need to find out if your clutch/flywheel has ever been replaced.
I agree that the Pressure plate sounds like its FUBAR

I did my clutch at 159k, LUCK was on my side and the DMF was still good.

Here is my thread of the replacement.

I can probably check that with any BMW workshop by giving them my VIN or Engine [IF it was done through a dealership] if not I guess it'll have to go in for a strip and quote. you were lucky indeed that the DMF was still good. I was quoted up to R20,000 for new DMF as well as clutch assembly from a workshop who has done all my other vehicles the past 6 years. I will check out your other thread
