i finally changed the CCV valve this wwekend and found some evident problems.
- there was about 100ml of oil in the intake manifold
- there was alot of hard sludge inside the CCV valve
- the two return pipes (air and oil) were blocked
the oil seals for the two solenoid valves at the front of the engine were passing.
the oil filter housing to engine gasket was also passing.
to say the least, i replaced all oil seals and tappet cover gaskets around the engine. set me back R3500 for parts only. labour was free as i did it myself.
doing 550km from overhaul and just monitoring the consumption.
i still have to drop the oil sump and clean it out but after the stealership recommended engine flush with parafin.
apparently these E90 engines are notorious for excessive sludge build up. while at the stealership, he showed me 3 cars whose engines were being replaced under motorplan. apparently it is the magnesium alloy in the engine material that reacts with the synthetic oil...
