Lets start a 320d thread now, since the 320i one has to come to a happy ending?

shall we start of with these Dynamic drivers whose cars always look dirty cause of the soot on their bumpers and their grey wheels??? :mmm::mmm:

(dig dig he he)

I was also wondering, if people complain about the E90 320i, I can't even imagine what the 116i in the 1 series is like. No offense to 116i owners. :)

Okay ShadowMonkey, start it and let us know and all of us from this here thread, will join up lol

@Olorin - i have not driven it myself yet i have sat in one. the car feels more sluggish and also very delayed respone, one would get easliy agitated with it. my personal opinion but the drivers of the step can give a better answer there

ive wasted every 320d thats wanted a go :mmm:

2nd can of worms? :)

Lets get Killua to do us some graphs there...lol

Sorry, seems this thread is proof of rule 25 of the internet:
- Relation to the original topic decreases with every single post.

Anyway, I have made the estimation for e46 323i vs 320d, before the 135kw version, those are the most common e90 320d's on the road.. RED is 323i, BLUE is 320d:
320de46vs323i5and6.jpg

Here we can see that if moranor was cruising for a bruising on the highway, and would find the 320d there, then he should be able to beat him if the 320d stays in top gear. I think it has to do with the gearing for the 323i. I think that the e46 320d should do worse, but I do not have enough data to validate.
Now I compare the 323i to the 2010 320d which has extra torque.
320dvs323i5and6.jpg

320dvs323iall.jpg

Overall, a drag race between the 135kw 320d and the e46 323i would prove difficult to choose a winner. But I think the 320d should win though. But it would depend on the diesel driver, where most of them are idiots and change gears to early, because it "feels" like they are going to go faster if the gear up.

EDIT: I don't think the 320d would kick the 323i's ass, it should be even until about 140km/h, then its bye bye:
I am plotting the gap between the 320d and 323i:
320dvs323igap.jpg

Beneath the horizontal axis is how far in meters the 320d should be in front...

Remember Moranor has a higher ration diff & 6 speed box in his car

:dropjaw: Thats cheating. But lets make it fair then, remaped 320d vs ....

Wonder what the output would be on a 135kw, 380nM lil'ol diesel with software and decat.... :dunno: Any ideas Killua...?

isnt the 116i a 1.8???

I think it's a 1.6 motor although I might be wrong. 85 kw's.

Its a de-tuned 1.8...to make the 118i drivers feel better... :) :mmm:

I estimated using one of the dyno charts from xcede, so some can be better, and some worse:

So this is against stock 323i, not moranors monster.

lol my car is no where near a monster... but i hope one day it will be :)

the 1st 320d my car was completely standard, but looking at your graphs maybe the guy was a complete idiot...
my car has a 10% gain with diff ratio

killua how are these graphs drawn up? do they take weight into account? i would like to do my own calculations so i can work out what effect mods would have on my car :)

i have in the mean time done a full free flow and soon will have a flywheel that is a little lighter... but have not dynoed it because i need to do the flywheel before i get it chipped...

dont get me wrong im not saying my car is way faster than a 320d, but thats just the general impression i get :dunno:

I wrote a simulation program. I take into account:
-Weight
-Drag Coeficient
-Frontal Area
-Tyre size
-Gear ratios
-Torque curve.
-Altitude above sea level, in your case 0m
-And normal cool day temprature of 25 degrees I think.
-I also have constants for friction and traction for different drive trains RWD, FWD and AWD.
-Gear change speed via choice of gearbox.
-Aspiration

EDIT: Your car is faster than 130kw 320d's, but I would be keen to know the outcome against the 2010 model. But it is still hard to say without having your gear ratios.

It still needs alot of fine tuning. I can send it to you, but there are a couple of bugs. I don't get alot of time to work on it. I will maybe PM you later, or tomorrow. It is user friendly though...
