Hi

Having issue where, when i start the car and let it idle and do an oil check it will show max and OK.

But if im driving for a while it will show exclamation and when i do a check again it says minimum. If the car stands for a while and i start it then it shows maximum again.

Not sure now if i should top up or not.

motorplan ?

Only thing i hate about the E90... no damn dipstick to make sure what's happening.

If you have motorplan get it looked at. rather be safe than sorry.
If no motorplan get it checked anyway :)

No motorplan. Took out warranty though but doubt they cover preventative maintenance from what ive heard.

Sent e-mail to dealership and got a response saying they will sort it out, have the car less than a month. Not a damn gonna pay now already.

A friends father used to work for BMW but works from home now but he can only look at the car next year...too busy right now.

Think to be safe i should rather top up though.

Thanks for response

I would say get it looked at asap...

Too much oil in the car aint good either... somaybe add 500ml or so then you know it has oil in it. :)

When was the last time you topped up the oil?

You would get a more accurate reading after driving the car for about 5min or so.

I would say buy a litre from the dealers and use half (500ml), then drive around and take a reading while on the highway at a steady speed.

Maybe a faulty oil level sensor. My E90 shows the same level if idling or driving, only time it changes is months apart when the level drops 25%.

Worrying thing is when i got it from the dealership(not BMW) they said it had just been serviced but error popped up like a week later so i thought just to be safe...top up, which i did but 2 weeks later it popped up again.

Thing is i don't see any oil leaks on the ground or engine bay besides a bit of sweat around the head.

Gonna tell them to check the Valve Stem Seals as well as the head gasket cause i see a bit of smoke at times :nonono:

Yep, not the brightest idea taking a physical dipstick out of the design!

Probably so you have to go to the Stealership to do a simple oil check:thumbdo:

It's the same sort of mentality as taking the temperature gauge away...

Personally I am just going to change oil once a year including the oil filter and then every second year or whenever there is a service item that needs to be checked to keep FSH I will no doubt take the car to the agents with items supplied. With the E90 6 cyl engines, you need to fill with 6.5 l , but to prevent having a potentially over-filled situation 6 l might actually be better and then just add 500ml when the dipstick shows 25% remaining - therefore always within the safe level!
