Some pics of my "new" car. Very happy so far. Got it on Friday afternoon, already deflapped it, egr cleaned and disconnected. After the operation i now have the engine management light on. Did replace all the electrical plugs although i did plug the vacuum pipes leading to the flaps and egr. Will try and sort it soon.

Thanks for all the best wishes. Am very chuffed with my purchase and must say, it is the best service i got from a private sale i had in a long time. Although i had to wait a week for the car to be ready, i got it polished and valet'd, with a years licence paid up as the previous owner transferred it from his business to his own name the same week. Thanks Jacques! The previous owner, Jacques, also has some other toys in his garage. A turbo charged Nissan 1200 bakkie with a Toyota twin cam, Cressida box and M3 brakes! A real sleeper which is street legal but also can be dragged at the quarter mile. Also has a nice red Z3 2.8 he want's to sell. Just under 200k kms but in very good condition. Contact me for details.

Don't want to knock the E90 3 series but must say, the E60 non-sport drives like a dream. Normal tyres on the normal suspension smoothes out most of the undulations in the road but still handles like a 5 should. It feels planted on the road where as the E90 you have to drive, this you sit relaxed and hold the wheel. Very nice, much like my old E39 530d. Maybe the 330d will be up for sale some day soon?

I totally agree there's a huge difference between the 5's and 3's.
My E39 is almost 19yrs old but it feels vastly different to an E90.

What's the mileage on this baby?

Mileage is 153k. Took out the cat yesterday and the chassis and covers are in very good condition.

Am planning a trip to Upington tomorrow. Looking forward to it. My one son visited us over the weekend and paired my phone to the car, now i have handsfree for "free". Works like a charm. A funny thing i did not know was when i checked the oil seperator on the car. Found there was nothing where the "toilet roll" is supposed to be!!. Got a big fright as i thought the guy that previously serviced the car must have left it out. I had a stroke of brightness and decided to Google why there was no oil seperator present. According to Google there was a time when BMW did not put the oil seperator in it seems the 2006 model year 5 series cars!! Just left it empty! I had bought a new seperator before hand but it would not fit. On closer inspection found there is a groove in the seperator so that the seperator can slide over a thin extrusion on the side of the housing. The groove in my seperator is actually in the wrong place which prevents the oil seperator from going in. This is what actually led me to Googling the difference. So, i left the oil seperator housing empty and i now have an oil seperator for sale. Another thing, the car has "adaptive" cruise which slows the car down when there is a car in front. A bit irritating when there is traffic as i like to use the cruise control as frequently as possible. Also, saw that during MP the long range sensor for the adaptive cruise was replaced twice, once at 30k and another time at 86k. Is there a way to disable the long range so that the cruise will still work normally?

The e60 should have the newer "vortex" oil breather.

Are you still getting an engine light? It's more than likely the egr delete. The swirl flaps aren't really problems in these cars. If you're not wanting to do sw. I had some guy in the Ukraine write my egr out. I think it cost about R700. You will of course need someone to download your car's file and send it off and someone to upload it again.

Congrats on the new car. Looks great! Did you sell your e90?

Dieselfan, i still have the E90 but am thinking of selling it as the E60 is a much nicer ride. I have already removed the swirl flaps, had blanked off the egr and had a friend remove the yellow engine light with his diagnostics, but it came on again after about 50kms. I plugged the egr in again and the light stayed on for a short wile. Took a nice long trip to Upington on Monday and came back today. Engine light was off when i left here! Coming back today i took the long way via Britstown, Three Sisters. I had filled up in Upinton yesterday. The car has a 70l tank. There was practically no wind, clear skies, lovely day. Had the cruise on 123kms/h which is 120 on the gps. I would have made home on a tank (1100kms) but decided to fill up at Touws River. Did 905kms on 54,1l of 50ppm diesel (16,73kms/l) which i think is excellent. On coming through the De Doorns section there were some road works and we travelled at 60 - 80kms/h but i saw 21,2kms/l on the obc. I think it is standing on 18,8kms/l now and i did just under 200kms from Touws river. It amazes me that a car as big as the five can give such economy. o, and i don't have a breather in, left the oil seperator casing empty.
