Have they tested the engine with a working set of injectors? Surely said mechanic can test the motor with another set of injectors just to confirm that it in fact is the injectors and not another underlying issue

Just a thought
As a non runner with no ability to verify what is wrong with it say 20k
As a runner after spending say 10k to 18k about 80k.

It would be better to try and fix notwithstanding the challenges you face.

I shall post back as to repair costs on injectors as RODAC overhaul them at a decent price.

Pretty much this 100%.

Also, RODAC are great to deal with and will answer any questions you may have.

Who ever your current mechanic is and/or who ever is giving you advice on this repair - FIRE HIM/HER IMMEDIATELY. Maybe take a step back, reassess and get proper advice before continuing?

Karlien I think give us some back ground as to what happened between talking to RODAC and looking for a new engine. Did you already buy (paid and collected) a replacement engine and it turned out to be the wrong one that you are sitting with now? Is the code you gave for the wrong one or another one you are looking at buying now?

I am interested to also hear how you got from injectors to a whole new engine (and why the mechanic can't advise you on what motor it should be in the first place). Lost for words on this one.

Ok, so the full story to this whole debacle - I took my car to another shop to assess my engine as the mechanic I originally had it with was dodgy (currently sueing him). The guy dismantled my engine and looks like he left it outside during lockdown (in the rain) as its rusted inside and all kinds of other things in the engine. Repairs to fix all this will amount to more than another engine, so I just decided to get another 330d engine. I then bought an engine from a business, only for it to be a 325 when it arrived! Sent it back, and now want to buy another engine from another place, but want to make sure its the right one this time, so I asked for the engine info - 306D2 29265645 is what they sent. I however have no idea how to see what this info means, so was wondering if anyone here has an idea how to check?

I had my doubts when you posted that you got an engine for around R30k. I don't know how much M57 go for but that amount def coincides with n52b25 pre lci pricing (depending where you get it from - it can be much more too). N52b30 is scarce and if you get it, it's also generally pre lci variant (few kws down). These are usually the prices on swap in of the old motor without ancillaries.

Did these guys take your old motor as a swap and give you a completely different motor? What the flying fuck?

You should be looking for an M57.

Click https://www.realoem.com/ put in the last 7 digits of your VIN in in the "serial" box, click search
Then click browse parts and click on Engine.
Not sure if ALL the info you require will be there, but you will be able to familiarize yourself with the part numbers you require.

Definitely a difficult position to be in... I recall @"Peter@AEW" recommending a mechanic to you, did you end up taking the car there?

It seems like the advice being given here is ignored until you reach the next problem up the road. Given the choice of mechanics that seem to be available to you, it may actually be best for you to cut your losses and move on. Perhaps you should look at something less heavy on maintenance like Jazz perhaps.

*EDIT, this is a case of spending R50k to get it running properly and have a car worth R70k(Maybe), or cut your losses and sell it as is now for R20k. Have a look at the neat example below that hasn't sold at R100k and you will see where I'm coming from..

Shame...doesnt sound like a good position to be in currently. What did Peter's suggested guy say? Agree with JodyD, send some pics or ask the supplier to send some pics of the engine/number perhaps that can help clear it up. But I think you need to get a specialist close to you to assist...again what did Peter's contact say?

If this is the pre lci, call Mr Engine, they have a complete 330d engine that I saw a few days ago.
