The main appeal of the e46 interior is the way the centre console is tilted toward the driver and the way the dash on the passenger side gently curves, as compared to the e90 dash where BMW decided to make it as flat a plank.

It is true that the e90 interior might look a bit more modern than certain e46 interior themes, but that is not the only thing that bothers me, it is also that most of the interfaces like the buttons, knobs and slidey bits like the vents just feel to light and lack feedback, this is of course my opinion.

And if it comes to looks you just need the correct theme, like the interior of msm's car (and I'd like to think my car as well), you can't really do much better than that in the small luxury saloon class.
(msm's car has a black and very light beige interior with piano black trim on a black car, probably one of the best looks around, my car has a full black interior with brushed aluminium trim on a titanium silver car, and I like to think it looks pretty good)

I have to admit that the interior of msm 330d is timeless.....

but each to his own. Vaughan is perfectly correct, perhaps the "clinical" design was what BMW was going for, and clearly they pulled it off.....
