I was determined to find one with sportspack though and those tend to go for R190k+ here in Cape Town and (a reasonably priced one) is very very rare. A non sportspack can range anywhere between R150k to R180k depending on condition, extras and kms etc. That car has really low kms, so low that it may not be a good thing. 38k for a 7 year old car means just over 5k per year. I'd have it tested out at a BMW specialist for peace of mind. R180k is quite steep considering it's a 2005 and the E90 prices are about to take a knock due to the release of the F30. I would suggest you wait and check Gumtree every day (as I did) until you find a really good deal. You are bound to get some nice bargains in the E90 range as owners upgrade to the F30.

With the mileage an extras, your dad better buy it NOW!!!!! It won't stay long. It's a deal of a lifetime.

It's highly unlikely that E90 prices will go through the floor. Yes, certain models will drop in price as a function of age and mileage, but don't expect bargain buys across the range. For example sport packs will still keep their resale, once again with normal depreciation applying to them.
Also 335is for example might also suffer due to the reliability issues and 320i for obvious reasons, but this does mean that the entire range is now reduced to bargain pricing, especially with pricing levels on the new model.
Also BMW dealer trade in was always crap - however some people are only discovering this now and "panic selling" their cars creating the perception that prices are falling behind trade, whereas this was always the case for the last few years and not unique to the E90.
