This car belongs to the parents of one of our fanatics and came in for some maintenance. This car has only been serviced by the agents until now, its shocking to see what FSH really means...

Cloth and suede interior, quite rare.

Pretty clean on the top.

Keeping the broken kidney in place.

Missing a chrome tip.

Hood lining has been washed at some stage which caused it to shrink.

I replaced the tappet cover gasket, the rubber had become rock hard and brittle.

At the same time I replaced the spark plugs, these are what came out.

One tip was stuck in the coil, self tapping screw removed it.

Old vs new.

After some cleaning around the cylinder head.

New parts and cleaned parts.

Overnight in Prepsol.

Don't forget the drei bond!

Although this car had its regular servicing at BMW they don't change air filters too often...

At least they changed the air filter once or twice, same cannot be said for the fuel filter...

Old thermostat throwing an error.

Lower rad hose leaking around the temp sensor.

Old one off.

Old vs new.

The car is running great now and the owners are very happy with how the car performs. They say they will never take it to BMW again and that Im the only one to work on it in future, I look forward to seeing it next time.:ty:

Great work once again Gizmo!

True about the fuel filters. When I went in to get my service parts a while back they had to order the fuel filter for me. The parts guy told me and I quote "I'll have to order that for you sir as BMW Fuel Filters are lifetime parts so we don't change them"

I laughed in his face. This is why my car will never see the inside of a dealer.

Awesome work! :praise:

But shocked to see the original fuel filter..
That I am used to, its the mismatch spark plugs that irk me...

I have removed original fuel filters from BMWs before with more than 200 000km...The fuel comes out black like tar when you shake it...

Yehp.

The reason why the motor on the X3 went in the first place was also because it "had full service history" from the agents.

To the guys under motorplan, especially if your doing low km's, start implementing a 2 change oil strategy.

Thats 7,500 you service, one you pay for, one BMW pays for.

You can take it to the dealer and have the second/half oil service done by the agents, or take it to Gizmo.

An original oil filter and original oil will cost you under 1k from the agents for parts

An original oil filter and some liqui moly will cost around 700.

Folks really should get in the habbit of half oil changes, since my failure of the X3 motor due to bad servicing, I never skip on this..

I am sure Gizmo would be very happy to oblige with your service request

Good work Gizmo, education is key :)

And the customer thinks he/she has peace of mind because the vehicle is under MP or had all its services through BMW.

:hammerhead:

163 000 km iirc.

In Haynes manual I read that the fuel filter must be changed every second inspection 2. This is probably why it was never changed before.

And no BMW ever reaches Inspection 2 at the normal 100k km motorplan anyways. Just tragic.
