Getting down straight after work got it up on the ramps and started stripping out the pump. I tested the voltage and all is good, so it's definitely the pump... maybe.. not sure... we will see . Also definitely the wrong PS oil.

Got the pump out and gave it a quick clean so I could handle it better. Started out by stripping it in sequence. First suspicions was water as I could see rust buildup and corrosion in the stater housing secondly the dust from the brushes which had completely clogged up the motor it chalked up in big chunks possibly caused by the water mixing with the dust build up. On further inspection I noticed the seal at the back of the main power inlet was damaged which caused water to flow into the area that housed the circuit board. I will try and source new electronics first if all fails, I'll have to replace the pump.

Managed to get a pump at a decent price. Got home and removed the motor housing. Blew out the heavy brush dust that had built up. *Use a mask if you do this that dust is a killer I inhaled some... Very bad

Continued to remove the fluid inlet housing and clean out the ATF that they had running in this pump, carb or brake cleaner works great for the cleaning process.

Cleaned the motor cooling fan as well, it was all gunked up with ps fluid and sand.. nasty stuff just stripped the fan off the plate and cleaned the mounting plate and the fan blades. Cleaned out the mounting area and the ps rack area that too was all messed with ps fluid and sand just gave it a spray with blixem degreaser and a quick scub and hosed it off with some pressure.

When fitting the motor back in I found it easier to fit the wire connector back then fit the pump. It takes some careful maneuvering so be patient

Removed the reservoir and cleaned out the ATF. Fitted a facet pump to the rack to try and extract most of the ATF, got everything back in place and topped up with Chf11s.

Will post and update

So the interior is mint on this car thank God . Just the gator on the gear and the handbrake was annoying me. Pulled out the old walking foot and decided to make up a new set. Went for a red stitch.. mind you there is no red trim in the car but I wanted to do it anyway. Also went for a black vinyl.

Cool DIY on the gearknob and such - ironically I'm starting to learn woodturning (soon), partly to make some old style wood gearknobs, let me know if you'd be keen - could be a nice starter project (hit up on PM).

I paid R15000 for the car license upto date. The car was a trade in vehicle at a local VW dealer they had removed the motor to fit a new clutch ever since then it had issues so they sent it off to a third party workshop it has not ran ever since.
