OK so did the rest of the trim pieces today. Boy did it come out sh.it!! Lol

What I thought would be the easiest was actually the most difficult. The big flat odd shaped surround piece was a bit tricky to get everything neat.

Next time I'll use a mild soapy solution for lubrication, I think that will work. On the plus side the gear lever came out quite well. Was actually quite easy to take apart.
Anyways ran out of time so couldn't redo the flat piece.

Yeah that doesn't look good. Sorry.

The rest looks great though! Glue the cracks and fill them then sand flat then wrap again

Ya I know it looks kak dieselfan lol, hopefully will sort it out soon.

Chef it's quite easy. Hardest part was separating the wood trim from the plastic backing. There's a good diy, I will post the link when I'm back at a pc. Although he didn't mention anything about the wood being glued down on the plastic, perhaps they changed this in later cars? I had to use a dremel to separate the one edge.

Do it
I'll try wrapping with a better quality vinyl one more time, if that don't work, I will be spraying too.

Had some leftover plastidip so a while back I decided to do the grilles to see how it looks before actually buying black ones.

It came out good suits the sportsman with the rest of the shadowline trim, wanted to do a couple more coats, but ran out after about 4 or 5. Let's see how long it lasts.

Does anyone know why these would be unplugged? I assume it's the O2 sensors? Found it after cleaning the covers this weekend.

Nothing should ever be unplugged :fencelook:

Grills look nice. Are you going to do the T-piece in the lower intake?

I know lol
I think they might have failed and by unplugging them the system runs on default values. Atleast I hope it's as simple as that ;)

Yeah gonna do the lower grille as well, probably just use some gloss black as I used up all the plastidip.

Those should be unplugged.

The gearbox needs an oil change as you are now getting the first warning signs of failure, changing is no guarantee that it will not fail.
That box will be a good R30k to repair should it faill..
Oil is typically 2500 as well as roughly R1500 for filter and gasket (check prices with agents)

If the car has done more than 10 000Km the vanos seals are toast.

Drive it in good health.

Ah OK thanks

Are you talking about when the car goes into limp mode? Is it related to a gearbox problem, indicative of failing in the future? I read that depending on the current state an oil change could cause the box to go sooner....?

Yes and yes

Although an oil change has saved a couple of them from premature failure.
The ones that failed after the oil change would have been due to them not having had all the oil drained from the gearbox.
I think they hold 9 liters of oil and they need to be drained first have the oil filter changed topped up driven and then drained again and topped up.

You are fortunate in having the old style filter as the new ones have the filter incorporated in the sump and that is the most expensive plastic you would ever buy.

Those 2 extra plugs are for post cat O2 sensors but because South Africa doesn't have emissions laws they weren't needed, the engine uses just the 2 pre cat O2 sensors to adjust the a/f mixture. On USA, Europe and Japan models which had emissions laws they used 4x O2 sensors, 2 pre cat and 2 post cat.

I'm loving your touring and what you doing with it. Next thing is bigger oem wheels and m5 mirrors...:fencelook:

Ah I see, it makes sense now because I google the part number and it came up as an o2 sensor. So the sensors are there just not plugged in? Why didnt they just delete it completely?

Ive been looking at some options for wheels, but I think realistically I will only do that next year - 19's would fill the arches nicely I think
M5 mirrors will be awesome, but that price :fencelook:
