2002 E46 M3 3.2l convertible

Hey guys, some advise please

I have the opportunity to buy my dream car. The 2002 E46 M3 convertible. It is R90000 with 197000km on the clock. My question is does it need another cambelt service at 200000km and is it a good deal? Reallt keen but dont want to buy a lemon

A R90k e46 M3 will be a code 3 lemon, stay far away!

FYI BMW have not used cambelts since the early 90's.

At that price, sounds like the car comes without an engine...

I suspect the engine needs a full rebuild at that price - it has probably spun a bearing.

But to answer your question, the engine uses a timing chain, not a cambelt. To be honest, if you have to ask taht question, then you are not ready for E46 M3 ownership.

The convertible only came out in 2004 as well. If it's a 2002 it's a 330ci with M3 kit on.

Eish you guys are hardcore:roflol:....there's a couple of things that doesn't add up, 2002 M convertible being the biggest of them. Make very sure that you are looking at an e46 M3 convertible and not a 330I Vert with an //M badge on the back. As for your question regarding timing belts, let's call it an oversight or assumption by yourself, possibly based on the fact that older bmws use to have those.
