Its rubbers and seals, regardless of how old it is.

David from CBF in Randburg will be able to sort out for you I am sure. He did a 7x 560 sec for a friend of mine the other day, no mess, no fuss...

Wouldn't it be possible to replace the old brake booster with a newer one from a more recent BMW model?

But it should be possible to restrict the pressure though? (I am assuming that the more modern boosters will use a higher pressure) It should be possible to do something like this by using things similar to CDV's on the brake lines (one possibility but might introduce other problems). But of course if the newer one has a lower pressure the it might be harder to match, or if changes are needed on the boost line (not sure about the correct name) from the intake manifold.

The reason I am wondering about this, is I was working on a e30 project car a while back and I had this idea (only idea) to replace the old booster with a more modern one (not the only part that I wanted to do this to by that is another story :))

Well, when I had all those issues with the E34, I seriously considered swapping out the H31 Hydro system for a vacuum type system.

Had a look at the 1 series master and booster. Its small and really compact, all you would have to do is apply a vacuum force (the H31 was fully hydraulic from the power steering, so no vacuum) and make sure that you can attach pedel mechanics to it.

Luckaly I got my master rebuilt (12k from BMW for a new one, R450 from david).

Its possible, guys have done it, its a lot easier as well with no ABS controller, so for an E30 project, why the hell not, the vacuum booster is about the width of my hand, maybe a little bit bigger, but nice for projects with no space in the engine compartment

These the the exact reasons why I was looking for a the upgrade to one that is smaller

But the reason I thought about it for this specific application (on a 2002) is just due the the availability (or lack thereof) of boosters for the 2002

But with a rebuild of the original one at this kind of price it would seem rather senseless to go through the trouble of upgrading it :)

Thanx guys, it seems that my boosters have weird diaphrams that need to be cast. Ill go look uo the guy in randburg. The other option is to install 3 parallel mc's and a balance bar and leave out the booster all together(nice when you need space for dcoe's).

Thanx guys.

Hi Cyclone,

I have a 1971 BMW 2002 with a brake booster problem. Did you solve your problem?

Thanks Dean

Brake booster cost quite a bit of cash, but that was because its ancient American technology, and they had to import a kit.

I had the master rebuilt for 750, and the booster cost me about 3k, but they redid everything..

You would have to get a quote.
