2002 320D E46 - ASC, brake & ABS lights on

ouch.. from the mk60 ecu memory (which is the traction control/abs/stability ecu) it would seem like a control unit fault..

no coms (can) , low voltage, ecu faulty.. but since this ecu is part of the abs solinoid unit on the driverside of your car under the bonnet, i think its at least a posibility that the plug is not making contact on some pins (maybe water?)
maybe give it a wiggle or a clean and replug? worth a try..

No worries, I had to replace the tires anyway as they were almost slick
I'm currently leaning towards my pot of Vaseline because it seems to me like the ABS/ASC pump or control unit is effffed. I honestly feel like crying now.


PS: Phoned a dealer just now...new unit is R25k :argh:
He did however tell me that it could be the brake pad sensors! I will surely check this out first before anything else.

You can have the ABS control unit reconned or even get a used one if that's the culprit :thumbs:

But all odds point to the steering angle sensor :thumbs:

I still stick with my steering angle sensor. Just get it re-calibrated first and if the problem comes, you will have to replace it.

OK I don't know wtf happened to my post yesterday but anyway... I got two new rear tires fitted 2 weeks ago plus alignment. Got the codes read and reset on Wednesday. Not even 100m out of the shop the lights came back on. I have attached the printout of the scan. Please ignore the glow-plug and battery voltage errors, those are old and I don't think it's been reset before.

steering angle sensor would have shown up in the error codes as "steering angle implausable" or similar if i recall correct..

would like to know what this one was..

had a similar issue on my E46 320d about 2 weeks ago after the alternator packed up, I continued to drive the car after the charge warning light was on and the car was now just using power in the battery. when the battery power was now low, the ABS, ASC and brake lights all came up simultaneously. since you have tried swapping tires and everything else related to the wheels, just try and swap the battery with another one and check if the warning lights will go away. mine went out when I put on another battery. got a hunch its something to do with the power supply to these components as your car also read out a battery charge fault. Please keep us posted on the progress. Hope it wont end up costing you an arm and a leg.

Ok, so I had it at an ex BMW mech and he did a few scan and resets and the fault that keeps showing up is the control unit. So I guess my ECU has packed up and gone to hell. Anybody know of a second hand one I can buy together with some Vaseline?

OK just to give some feedback, I ordered a second hand unit from eBay and fitted it. Now, only the Traction control light and the yellow handbrake light stays on. I just want to confirm that those are just the error still stored in the ECU and that it has to be reset? Also, will the TC and ABS not work until it is reset?

not sure if the mk60 ecu has to be coded to the car, i sugest dropping leonard at dentdoctor (one of the forum sponsors) a pm, he might be able to tell you more..

as for the lights staying on, the best would be to reset and see what pops back up. afaik the system will not be active with certain errors present..

Yeah I found out that the damn thing has to be recoded to my car because of the VIN numbers being different. I'm so f@#$ing angry right now, this thing is just costing me money. Anyone know of someone close to Durban that won't F up my car?
