Update #3 - Plastidip ram air intakes

So the car was given a ram air setup by one of the previous owners but I was not a fan of the silver rings as seen below.

So our resident ChrisBrand, being the awesome guy that he is, lent me his can of black plastidip. Last night at 10pm I was feeling the itch, so I went to the garage to tackle the job.

The result is great, although not a perfect finish it does the job of blending the intakes into the grill.

The problem with plastidip in jobs that require a bunch of masking off like I did is. If you try to remove the masking when the plastidip is dry, it will peel the plastidip off so you need to do this while it is wet and this can result in a couple of smudges which is what happened to me.

I have one pic of the result that I quickly snapped this morning.

Definitely need to get a nice photoshoot sometime.

Update #4 - Stock Air Filters

So time to get rid of the aftermarket air filters. They seem to be simota units and they dont fit the airboxes properly. They had to go.

After replacing the filters I gave the MAFs a good clean with the Liqui Moly MAF cleaner. I am hoping this may solve a code I had for the right MAF as it was extremely dirty.

Here is another pic of the black intakes.

Why not BMW filters? I removed the GUD filters from my M5.

These were ~160 each. BMW wants >400 each for basically the exact same filter.

Since paper filters are not lifetime filters I usually change them with every oil service and it is just pissing money away to use the BMW ones in this case.

I paid R165 each at BMW. Seems some dealerships are sharks. :nono:
I agree, if they had to charge me that much, I would also use the GUD filters.
