2000 bmw 320d e46 coolant and mantainance advice

Hi ther just got a 2000 bmw 320d e46...its my first car and had it for about a week now so this morning whem i strted th car th coolant light started flashing so am not so firmiliar with cars jus wanted to know what is the best coolant tht i should put and what else do i need to look out for this 320d that normaly need constant check. The car still got 14000km before next service.:flyfun: plz help with mo infor on how to mantain this car

there is only 1 coolant I believe in and that's Toyota's 50/50 pre mix long life coolant. I throw it in all my cars when time comes for coolant change.

If it was me, I would do a" flush" first and then filling it with the correct coolant supplied by the Dealers.
I'm sure other fanatics would recommend maybe some other or the same coolant that is cheaper than the stuff at the "Stealers!" hehe

Hi there, welcome to the family. How handy are you? Would definately do a flush first, then fill with 50/50 mix of antifreeze and DISTILLED water, or a ready mixed coolant. Don't forget the bleeding, you'll regret it immediately. Most of the brand name antifreezes are safe for ali engines, I personally use Castrol, just because I like to. Otherwise, first check your cat, then kill it, along with the EGR system, they serve no purpose here and steal from your performance. There are 1 or 2 other things, which have slipped my mind off hand, (senility is a bitch, and no pills for it!), but use the search function at the top of the page, you'll find all sorts of tips and troubles. Agent only coolant is my recomendation, what's the mileage ? I'd guess a entire cooling system rebuild is likely in the future.

The mikage is 165k

Only use BMW antifreeze in a 50/50 ratio with distilled water. Other antifreeze is not suitable so stay away.
