Ted from Imcomex is a top guy! Very well informed and knows his product better than anyone else in this country!
Funnily enough, I met him like 10years ago when he owned Afrishox, small world.

Ted is my flatmate's uncle. He shouted at me for fitting Powerflex bushes to my Shark and for not fitting Bilstein to the RatRod. Top guy :)

Yes, small world.

I busted ass today!

Adjustable Powerflex rear control arm bushes.

Building up the rear axle, cleaning as I go. LHS clean.

Before.

After.

Both sides clean.

Before.

After.

Modified axle carrier.

Diff fitted to carrier.

Stock diff bush to be removed.

Powerflex replacement.

Assembled the rear shocks as per Ted's instruction.

What an absolute bitch to remove/install!!!!

Fitted.

See how far back the diff sits now. Proof that the original rear axle carrier was bent.

Textar pads going in. Copper grease of course!

Sideshaft bolts and saddles all clean.

Most of the rear suspension back in place, the sway bar still needs cleaning and re installation.

Springs no longer falling out their perches.

Working into the night. Original wheels back on, notice the reduced droop.

Formerly toe-out is now toe-in, yay!

Im absolutely spent! Im going to bed now, good night!

Fantastic work.

And suspension work is hard labor.

The rear ride height seems a bit high. Perhaps 180deg rotation of the eccentric bushes will cure this (if the one end of the trailing arm dips, the other end will pick up, with the spring being in the middle)

Keep in mind that the propshaft and exhaust aren't on the car which weight 30-40kg combined. Also the suspension still needs to settle.

Excellent work Gizmo! When removing the propshaft and fitting a new guibo, does the propshaft need to be balanced again? Or is it just remove old fit new and put back on car?

Thank you.
The latter.

Moving onto the Z3 again. Gave the rear sway bar a clean.

After.

Refitted the sway bar.

Forgot to add, these crucial washers weren't present when the car arrived, got two out my washer draw. Sorted.

Now that all the rear suspension components are clean, the rest of the underside looks nasty, time to fix that.

Stage one, karcher off as much of the dirt as you can.

Stage two, coat the underside with engine degreaser and let it sit for a while to soak in.

Stage 3, karcher off the degreaser and stubborn dirt.

I had to empty the bin twice.

I don't know how your lungs cope with this everyday, because the mist created is a killer

Looks great, are you installing the clutch line as well?

FYI, both the diff and gearbox is filled with Liqui Moly... no older than 5000km.

I've found this stuff to be the most noxious, but it does an even better job than Prepsol. Just be careful, don't leave it to dwell for too long as it's very corrosive.

It's my new go to cleaner for under cars.

Today's progress before load shedding kicked in at 1pm.

Cleaned the gearbox using prepsol.

Copper grease where needed.

Installed the new thrust bearing.

Cleaned the propshaft and installed the new guibo.

Cleaned the shifter linkages and greased the dry shifter bush for smoother operation.

Cleaned all the dirty heat shields and their nuts.

Installed clean heat shields.

Installed exhaust.

Loosened the fuel filter bracket and turned the filter to see the date stamp, its the original 15 year old filter, ordered a new one which will be here tomorrow.

That's all for today, bloody eskom!

Chassis needs more cleaning especially along the brake/fuel lines, will tackle that tomorrow when I change out the fuel filter.

Also RHS back box heat shield needs more cleaning, will also sort out tomorrow.
