In both instances- BootMod or Hex, the ECU needs to be unlocked as the start of the process , however the process thereafter is completely different to each other.
Hi there is no "seal", it's glue. It has to be opened or I suppose one can drill for the boot pin. But when you reapply heat with a heat gun, the factory glue "re-seals" itself. And there is no trace it was ever opened.

Also with the ECU on the intake manifold will be less likely to get water ingress..
