Help the guy, we all speed don't lie to yourself. The speed is not what is being discussed here.

The OP is asking for help on an issue the vehicle has, that he picked up when doing excessive speeds on what I presume to be a long, straight road with barely any traffic on. We have all pushed our cars to (or near to) the limit when given an opportunity to do so, such as on long open roads on your way down to the coast. He has not mentioned illegal racing or that he was doing it on the N1 in peak traffic times. He owns a vehicle that was built to do those excessive speeds, wherever it may be, and now states that the vehicle is not performing as it should and would like to resolve the issue. Perhaps this was his first time doing that speed for the thrill of seeing what his car was capable of?

Would you help him better if he said he picked up on the problems at those speeds whilst doing a 1km run at ODI?

Now, I am in no way promoting the activities of the OP, and I do not condone street racing or reckless driving. Let me state here and now that BMWFanatics and TheFanatics does not condone illegal activities on the roads in any manner or form whatsoever, and that the forum supports the Arrive Alive campaign.

That being said, it is perfectly understandable to see where the OP and his concern is coming from. Would you be happy with a car that doesn't perform to the best of its capability? This is ultimately the purpose of this thread.

Please offer him the knowledgeable assistance I know this forum and its fanatics can offer, which is what he came here for, rather than berate him on what speed he was doing.

I would say I have a similar issue with my 1M.... But I don't have the issue... Or a 1M...


You might want to get the front rims looked at bud, I had a similar issue on my 1 car, it was uneven wear, to further the issue, have them place the needle item near the edge of the rim when checking balancing, to ensure the rim face/edge is proper circular...

When the rim is off have the brake disc inspected as well, to ensure no warping.. But this if anything would even be felt on normal driving as well..

hi everyone

I drive a 2012 1M and during the festive last while driving to welkom i noticed the front end starting to to shake when passing 200 km/h. took it easy the rest of the way as this only happens past 200 km/h.. thought it was engine mountings at first.. when i got back from welkom first thing i did was take the car to bmw. they drove the car and couldnt find anything wrong, told them the problem only starts after 200. they refused to drive the car at those speeds.. they looked and looked and noticed the diff bushes needed replacing. replaced all bushes but the problem is still there. can anyone suggest anything? perhaps if i tell them what to look for they can fix this problem. aircon is lose somewhere maiby?

OP is doing things that are illegal and put people I care about and others in danger, and is openly admitting it on a public forum.

I care not and iota for what he asked for.

i wasnt doing those speeds on republic road. as i stated i was on the way to welkom. open roads and in the early am's

I would also start with the basics, have you been able to check the rims yet, perhaps get a donor set of same size rims and tyres and retest?
I would be interested to know what the cause is.

no i havnt J. been so busy with work lately but i plane on atleast making time to check out the rims this weekend. need to sort it out asap. even tho the car drives fine at normal speeds i still feel so crap knowing thers something wrong.

Start with the simple stuff like the guys are mentioning.

Rims
Tyres could have a small bubble.
Also check your alignment and balancing.
