135i misfire

Hi guys

Installed my jb4 a week ago and having some problems.
As soon as the rev passes around 3500 i get a serious misfire.
Switching the car off and back on eliminates the problem until i accelerate hard again. However if the car is "stock", then no problems at all.

Upon some reading with terry(burger), it seems that because the car is under load with a tune, you will see problems that wont appear when the vehicle is stock.

Problem is that the car is under motorplan and bmw cant pick up a problem due to the tune being removed.
I have a suspicion that its the coil pack.So i'm in a dilemma.
Do i try to sort the problem out at my own cost, or just sell the jb4 and keep the car stock?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

:sorry: I assume you have reverted back to stock - I hope they dont dig deeper :nonono:.
tell them its when you drop a gear or two on a steep hill and the motor is under some load then.
its difficult wen you in a situation like this to be open. Best of luck man.

I had the same issue, but when it was stock. They replaced the injectors, an ignition coil and spark plugs.

Problem resurfaced again though, sent it in yesterday and turns out one of the spark plugs was the issue.

So best case, could be the spark plugs, maybe just pay out of pocket to replace them and hope for the best?

this is what i suggest.

take it to someone who knows their bmws in your area. someone independent. ask them to find the problem. once the problem is found, take it back to bmw and ask them to check whatever was found to be the problem. tell them you have a friend who used to be a bmw mechanic and he said you should check *the problem*

putting it back to stock is not solving the problem.

good luck

the car went in twice before for the same problem. This was while the car was stock.
It would happen when i drive the car hard.
First time they changed the plugs. The second time they changed the coil which seemed to have fixed the problem.
The problem has to be either coil, injectors or plugs. So i told them to check the previous warranty claims and then troubleshoot.

I took the car to a new dealership as the previous dealer couldnt get me a loan car(although its the 3rd time for same problem) so i'll give them some time.

waiting for their call

thanks for the replys

ok just picked up car from dealer.
no faults found.:argh:

so i'm going to see a bmw tech tomorrow to see if its going to be costly for me to rectify the problem otherwise i'm selling the jb4 and putting some Depo headlights or 1m replica rims:=):

Any volunteers to test the jb4 unit in Durban??

thanks for all the replys

dude dont rectify the problem, just get them to find the problem. pay them and then take to bmw to fix.

selling the jb4 - you will still have a problem with your car and if the problem is with the jb4 then you are selling a defective product to some1 else.

where did you buy the jb4 from?

jb4 was bought from burger motorsports.

If the problem showed up while car is stock then that will be brilliant!
Because then, it will store the fault code and bmw can fix it.
They cant fix it because there are no fault codes since i removed the jb4, which cleared all codes.Since bmw only reads "fault codes".

And as for the faulty unit, thats what i meant by "Any volunteers to test the jb4 unit in Durban??". Need a car to test the unit out on.:=):

No need to do that. It is very unlikely the problem is with the JB4. I sent you a PM to troubleshoot.

There is a simple way to determine if the problem is your car or the tune.

One more reason to buy directly from Rennzport.

pick up the same codes, mines is a bad o2 sensor,

misfire in cylinder 1-3 could be cat 1
misfire in cylinder 4-6 could be cat 2

bad o2 sensors could be the problem
