135i coupe tyre setup

Hi guys

I need to replace my front tyres. Currently running OEM setup 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear. I have crappy dunlops up front and contis at the back.

Ideally I wanted to put contis up front as well but they don't manufacture a 215/40/18. Would a 225/40/18 work fine up front?

Thanks!!

Yep will work fine.

I'm planning to go 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 when the stock Bridgestones are done.

Going for either Pirelli PZeros or Michelin Pilot Sports.

Toyo makes a 215/40/18. Brilliant tyre. The thing is that the 225s are less costly as well because it's more common. The 225/255 combination works well also.

Shot guys! Looks like I'll go the 225 route then. Still got plenty of tread on rears (245) but will probably go the 255 way when they are up

The reason why they went 215 was due to it being "Y" rated. The 225 is "W" rated. I think the "Y" rating is an over kill. I also just bought a set off 225 need to fit them.

Ok I see. I think W rating is good for up to 270kms/h. Will the slight increase to 225 affect the true speedometer reading or handling of the car?

I run 225 up front with 255 in the rear, non-RFT's. There was no effect on the speedo as far as I can see.

As for handling I can only comment from the perspective of coming from the stock size RFT to the wider, non-RFT config. Immediately the car was more comfortable, straight line grip was improved but with a slightly more "floaty" cornering experience. This I believe is owing to the less stiff sidewalls of non-RFT's rather than the effect of running a wider tyre.
