Hi everyone im in my final stretch on buying a car, my eyes were set on a M135i, and a new one being a little out of budget and the pre owned still being that little much. I want to know your guys opinion, scale down to a F20 125i, or a 135i coupe.

I've been offered a good 35i, 2013 19 000km R409 000 lots of extras, im just unsure if the shape change and the somewhat dated interior will bug me!

Help? what would you do?

thanks in advance.

135i is still a classy looking vehicle. Interior is clean and functional. I prefer it to the new releases. DCT is a bonus as its only offered in the N55 135i. Excellent gearbox. Its a joy to drive.

E82 135i > F20 125i

New model any day, it may be slower but it's new tech and you will be driving current, I would always drive current if I an in a position to do so, the 135i is a fine car but it's time has passed.

The coupe ... but then I'm biased that way

My 2 cents... the 125I has a great little motor, awesome interior (if we're talking the m-sport package... alcantara seats mmmmmm)

I personally don't like the looks of it...

The 135I 6 cylinder n55 motor, (heavier on juice but much much more rewarding), older interior yes but for me it's perfect, plus in time they will hold their value more..
There's only been one 1 series coupe, possibly ever.. now that the 2series is out. We're onto the second generation of 1 series hatches.

The other question is... very important one.. are you a family man?
If so, then the coupe may not be very practical being a 2door and having limited rear seating room.

Hope this helps dude!
Let us know what you decide.. oh and pictures are mandatory!

Vehicles devalue monthly and at year end they fall even more.I would wait a couple of months till you can get that M135i.I cannot describe the feeling the M135i gives you, but anyone who has not driven one needs to get into one and feel and hear what i am referring to.M135i brings out emotion and nobody who has ever driven in mine did not get out with a smile on their face.

I can vouch for this, you are spending R 409 000 the price is not to far off from pre owned M135's

The x35i, m135i or 135i is a truly epic car and after owning my n55 135i DCT for nearly two years now, I can comfortably say that the only car I would replace it with was another x35i. I believe most cars become dull after a few years and you start thinking about replacing it, but with an x35i you cant find a replacement unless you move up into the M division or comparable cars. Great value for money.

The real question is, do you need the extra power over the 125i, probably not, do you need 4/5 doors, if so then the coupe is def not the car to look at. What I can tell you is the 125i is a quick car and you wont be dissapointed, but when you stop at the robot and next to you stands an x35i...can you live knowing you could have owned an x35i?

I looked at buying the m135i, it is the next step up in the x35i evolution, but I dont regret going for the coupe. Maybe its preference, maybe its price...whatever you choose... I can guarantee you an x35i will put a smile on your face even after a few years of driving.... good luck.

Great discussion. If you can squeeze the M135 into your budget then go for it :joy:

Fully agree with you! I never get bored of mine....and it's a car I would love to hold on to forever

I was also in this predicament recently. Always had my heart set on the 135i Coupe. Test drove/went in it for the first time and fell in love. Also test drove the M135i. The M135i is an epic car! The sound and speed 0_0 I eventually went with my heart and for the following reasons:

Coupe was cheaper (Even if I put a lil more and got the M135i, fact is the coupe was cheaper)
M135i was more expensive without extras. Managed to find my coupe fully spec'd, 2013 with 10 7xxkm on the clock.

AND Coupe just looks so sexy. But then again, I'm biased :)

Drive both and see which you prefer (and it also practical for you)

I was also looking at getting the M135, and let me add.. Its an awesome car! Test drove and I was in love.. Was very close to buying a 2013 model.

After some negotiating with myself and my GF, I decided against a 1 series completely, then I decided against high fuel consumption, then next thing you know, I'm in a standard 2013 orion silver 320d. After driving the car for a couple of days, I just didn't feel like it was "my" car.. Car felt too old for my shoes.. After speaking to the dealer again, I went on board for a M package estoril blue 2014 320i. I'm a few minutes away from picking it up.. :=):

My sentiments exactly. The E82 is much sexier than the F20 and that is the main reason why I went E82. The E82 DCT gearbox is better than the F20 ZF gearbox. The E82 is cheaper with extras than the F20 is without. Performance is near identical.

It was an easy decision for me.

haha! thanks everyone for your input and sorry for my late reply :praise:

I think im leaning towards a coupe, just sorting the insurance it is a N55 with DCT. The coupe pricing and looks is what does it for me, the M135i, spec for spec and similar mileage just isn't right for me!

I am glad to see everyone with their 135 is a happy chappy though, gets me excited more and more

I also prefer the look of the 135i coupe over the m135i. Add the dct gearbox to it and it's and easy decision... well at least it was for me. Best value for money I could find.

Yes, the dct gearbox has it's moments and is not as perfect as a normal automatic when in traffic but if you find an open road and engage sport mode... WOW!

The N55 is the perfect all rounder in my humble opinion.
