130i: ABS Pump faliure

Dear Fanatics

My 07' 130i recently displayed the following error lights: ABS Light, Traction control off warning Light and the amber brake light.

I've reset the steering position sensor, replaced battery (I've read reports of low voltage causing this) and still, they are on.

I've now booked my vehicle in for a diagnostic at the shop which I've been taking the car to ever since I've owned it (Not sure if I'm allowed to name drop here) they are based in Stikland, Cape Town. And the Mechi says the diagnostic reports a failed ABS pump..

Has anyone experienced a failed ABS pump? What options are out there? and where does one source one second hand possibly..?

Thanks guys

It's your ABS pump, it happened to my 130i about 8 months ago.

For a 2nd hand one go to Ecu Technologies in Plattekloof, cost me 7k.

Whose your mechanic in Stikland? Is it APS?

Before going out and just buying parts, what is the exact error code that the car gives, do you know OP?

It could be the ABS as said here but it could also just be a dirty sensor on the wheel, heck it can even be a steering angle sensor that is dirty too.

I had that problem on my e90 330i and it ended up being the latter. First get the codes and give that to us, maybe we can assist you better then.

Yo bud I am not familiar with OP .. But I have asked the Mech to provide me with the error code, I'll post them here once I've received them. Thanks!

If the steering is the same the pump has not failed.

When the pump fails the steering will be incredibility hard - you will not turn the steering wheel with one hand.

Contact Gert@obxworks maybe he can help read the codes.

Had the same issue on my E92 335i a while ago, they also diagnosed it as ABS pump failure.

I removed all the ABS sensors and cleaned them, the one rear one was clogged up, problem solved.

Interesting.. I wonder if @3V0M-WP can confirm that his steering was hard because of the pump failure ?

On my e46 the pump shaft snapped and the steering got heavy. The e90/e92/e93 obviously has more sensors which can throw errors.

Sorry for late reply. No steering wasn't hard. It was all normal except when braking hard it locked up.

APS is a friend of mine. He's brilliant

The big issue with the DSC units is the pressure sensor(s) that sit on the hydraulic module. These cannot be removed as they are press fit into the hydraulic block. The DSC units don't fail often, but when they do its this sensor.

Hi thanx for the reply.

So only option would be to replace the entire unit with a new one?
