130 Clutch

Hey Guys,

Had my car for less than a month now, and just noticed today that the clutch is starting to make a ticker ticker ticker noise when in neutral. It's very quite and goes away when you push the pedal in - so I'm assuming the thrust bearings probably on the way out

The cars just reached 70 000Kms today and due for her service this week, you rekon there is any chance I'll be get a new clutch for this or what? Was actually thinking I should leave it be for anouther 20K so I can replace it closer to the end of warrenty.

My 1st bm-er so dont know much about the stealers.

And I always thought that my car had been driven gently and never gone over 3500 rpm as the previos owner was quite a old toppie, but I suppose a cluctch at 70K kms kinda implies he liked to rng it every now and again Maybe the old dude just rode the clutch like a ...

Tell them the clutch feels bad.. Feels like its worn or finished.. Then they might just replace it while they at it with the thrust bearing

My clutch did the same. They replaced the whole clutch kit.

They did it last year. Had about 30k on the clock

New clutch and a CDV mod would be nice :clap:

Also do the Performance short shift gear lever. I did mine while they did the clutch

hmmm very tempting! What they sting you for that, if you dont mind me asking?

Is the clutch a one day job, unfortunalty I'm down to one car, so really need the car the next day for work

It cost me R1600. Did it about July last year. Don't know what the price is now.

They gave me a courtesy car, 118i. It took 2 days

130i clutches are a bit clattery when in neutral.

My car's was replaced at 40000kms, because of a judder which developed, but apparently the noisy clattering is normal.

Plenty of the UK guys also mention this on a regular basis.

Ask BMW to check it out, perhaps they do replace the clutch...

Hey Guys,

Well after taking it in for a service last week SMG told my that because Auto Umhlanga recently did the clutch I need to take it back to them for the repairs, they confimered the noise and even stated that it sounds like the thrust bearing.

So bocked in with Auto U last week for today, get there bright and early only to be told my booking wasn't captured by their systems...slightly annoying buy got over it quick with a cuppa coffee. Then get a call at 1pm saying I need to come in and show them this noise, they cant find it

So tried to explain to them again over the phone, they assured me they have taken it for a drive and it's quite as a church mouse. Anyway long story short, get there and the car now sounds like a 130d, upon starting there is an imediate rattel, and turning the car off sounds like I'm stalling in 6th gear So workshop manager comes out and hears it straight away... big supprise!

Now I'm told I need to take the car away, as they need to phone BMW HQ and get some sort of PUMA case approved (I thought puma was a brand of shoes?). They are going to give me a call on wednesday to possibly bring the car in for further testing and then go from there!

Am I missing something here? The car has something broken, end of story and all i want is it fixed! Are they trying to pull the wool over my eyes here or is this the norm? The Consultant said this is protocol with large damage cases eg Gearbox/Engine, which did wonders to calm my nerves.

It is the norm procedure that they need to go through. They had to do it for mine. I left mine there for 3 days.

Don't worry, had a few PUMA cases on mine. It usually takes them a while to get feedback from Germany for the PUMA case (a week or more) then they will act accordingly.

Took them about a week for my latest one, and they figured out they need to order a new hydraulic roof pump for my vert which will take 2 weeks to come from Germany.

Alright well just had the thrust bearing replaced, took a while!

Gear changes seem slightly smoother, think thats the placebo affect. But I still have a slight rattle, not as bad but it's definatly there. And turning the car off with clutch out still makes a horrible ratteling noise!

Looks like this may just be the norm and I'm gonna have to live with it... Maybe I should just wait till my motor plan is about to expire and tell them I want a new clutch

This is normal. Mine has exactly the same noises. Even my friends brand new 118i sounds the same when turning off the car lol.

Yeah, my 130i, is beginning to make the same rattle just before take-off!
