120i F20 Vibration

Hi,

I have a 2017 120i F20 with 50km on the clock.

Between 120km/h and 150km/h there is a vibration in the car. A very noticeable vibration. BMW says its the rims that are bent, but I cant find that they are bent.

What else could the problem be? I still have 9 months left on my motor-plan so would like to get it sorted before it expires.

Take the car in for wheel balancing so they can confirm whether the wheels are damaged.

I have done that and everytime the wheels are balanced. I will redo it and watch the rim spin to see if I can notice that it is bent.

What else can be the problem, because at 150km/h the passenger seat headrest vibrates liek crazy. Will make a video and post it to show.

It might not be something you can spot with the naked eye, even a tiny amount of damage could cause harsh vibrations.

Ok thank you. Any recommendations or rim repair in Pretoria area?

I dont want to replace the rims as I really do like the rims on the car.

Swop tires around check for changes in the vibrations it might not be the tire that's the problem.

Just a finding that I had on my F20, i had a vibration and couldnt identify where it was coming from as well as a weird ticking noise from the RF tyre. no stones etc. Got to Mintys yesterday to change the tyres since they were getting a bit bad and found that my tyre had 2 cracks in to on the corner of the sidewall and thread face. From the potholes and rod cracks i hit sometime in its life. That was making the clicking sound and then further to that, it was also causing a vibration. You my want to get to a tyre place and remove the tyres and just check inside too. This is a first time occurence for me so its worth spending few rands and just double checking this.

Had the same issue a while back with the 20d, turned out to be the tires. Had the wheels straightened at Centurion Mag Repairs only to find I still had the vibrations. Replaced all tires which sorted it out (thread was getting low anyway).

I have had the same issues on my car , rims straightened balanced plenty times at different places , I put it down to tyres but they still have plenty life so don’t wanna change them now , I opted to get road force balancing done which made a big difference , still slightly noticeable vibration on certain highways but much better overall

I've got the very same problem at the same speeds. First, it was after fixing buckled rims (PSA do not use mag city in Paulshof). Got the rims fixed at Xpert twice, and realigned, still no luck. They told me the tyres had a flat spot. Bought brand new aftermarket wheels and fitted Michi PS3's, balanced, realigned again. Fitted spigots, checked the propshaft, still the problem persists. I'm pulling my hair out for an answer.

If you can borrow a set of rims and tyres from a friend with a similar car i suggest you fit them to your car and see if it still vibrates at the speed mentioned. Then you will know for sure.

What tyres do you have on your car.?
I had the exact same issue on my F30.. BMW said rims were bent.
This was not the case as i had them checked out and they were fine. even had the diff checked and that was fine.

Problem was actually the set of Conti's i had on. they were causing the issues. Luckily i had conti sure on them so went back to twt and they gave me the cash difference back. fitted a different brand and problem went away.
