Hi i fell in love with the BMW brand in 2010 when I bought my first bmw. It was a 2006 320i e90 88 000km manual base model.

In 2013 i traded it in at 140 000km for a 2010 320d e90 Dynamic edition auto 46 000km. The power and the torque was incredible. Didn't know that diesels could produce that kind of power and torque and 1000km per tank.

In 2015 i made the biggest mistake and sold it at 74 000km for a 2014 320i F30 m sport auto 19 000km. The pros was the look and the ride quality. The cons was the consumption, higher insurance and numerous interior rattles which made it unbearable to drive.

In 2016 while the 320i was getting a service i spotted my previous car the 320d and it was for sale. I decided to pay the shortfall for the 320i and get my diesel back with no motorplan. Test drive 100%. Mileage 93 000km. Needed tyres and the leather needed cleaning. At 97 000km i changed the oil ( LL04 @ R170 per litre ), oil filter, diesel filter, air filter, cabin filter and a set of michelin zp rft.

In May 2017 at 101 000km i fitted a downpipe at flowtech exhaust. Software was done on 11 May by a reputable tuner. The ecu was sent to their hq in joburg. Picked up the car on the 12th and during the test drive noticed a vibration. Before was 115kw 368nm and after 140kw 432nm. Prior to software the car ran smooth. Decided to give it some time to settle down.

Now on 107 000km and 4 months later the vibration is still there. The vibration is only at 1800rpm to 2000rpm when accelerating on a flat or incline not when stationery. The vibration is in the seats and mostly the steering wheel. SPORT mode no vibration as the rpm is above 2000. Vibration is more noticeable in higher gears. If I'm doing 80km on the freeway and i give it 75% throttle without kick down as soon as the needle goes between 1800rpm to 2000rpm the vibration starts. Before and after the specified rpm range it's smooth. No power loss. Spoke to the tuner and was given a few options. He can flash it back to stock, turn down the map or reflash if bmw flashes it to stock. Car went to bmw on 2 September to be programmed. They reprogrammed the gearbox only as the values were way off and a fault code of 004862 air system, air to EGR mass flow, plausibility came up. Suspension and engine mountings were checked. Consumption still great. When looking at the history it was never a problematic car.

PLEASE HELP with suggestions or anybody reputable in Durban that can assist. Thank you and sorry for the long post.

Howzit bud,

If the vibration is on the steering wheel & seats, it sounds like it could be the rims buckled or tyres have flat spots (happens due worn shocks, or buckled rims). Have you checked those?

Hi

Suspension and rims were checked and all good. The vibration is only at that rpm when engine is under load.

Thanks

I also experience this... though the vibration is very mild. Hadn't driven a new 1, thought that was just a quirk of the diesels. If it's a problem, then I have the same problem :fencelook:

Damper pulley maybe?
check if it has cracks...

but just as above I would get the wheels balanced again , inexpensive and once done you can surely eliminate that..

nyc ride. I only get vibrations when I hit the brakes, but then my alignment is totally off and I suspect wheel balancing too.

From a Bmw dealership. It's called a E90 performance vinyl stripes. I paid about R1200 in December last year and R300 to fit. The stripes look a different shade under lighting conditions as u can see in the pics.

I prefer the M-performance side accent stripes.
Take a look at those - although they cost a lot more...

Hi. Engine mountings were changed today. R3000 for Febi bilstein mountings and labour. No change vibration still present. Can gearbox mountings or guibo cause this vibration ?

The mechanic did a visual inspection and said it's fine as there were no cracks. What are the symptoms of a bad vibration damper pulley ?
