2009 Z4 35i Let the DIY and slight cosmetic modding begin.
So I bought the Z4 from KrS24.

The car is in need of some TLC with cosmetic stuff so far.
Firstly it has a bunch of scratches and swirl marks which I will sort out hopefully with a proper professional polish and detail.

The plastic adjusters on three of the cabin air vents were broken, so I will be visiting BMW to order those parts and then figuring out how to pull the air vents out to fit them will be the next step unless it can be done with a set of forceps tweezers which could work.

The right tweeter mesh was dented and warped so I tackled that today and managed to get it pretty close to the left one as possible, I don't think its noticeable at all now, it was an eye sore for me when I noticed it.

a few little clips here and there will need to be ordered from BMW. Then there is some funny rattle coming from the back of me when I drive, not sure what it is, some plastic sound.

Next up is the exhaust note, it has down pipes which are nice but the catalytic converters in the middle of the exhaust were removed so it sounds very raspy, allot of peeps love that sound, I personally don't dig it too much so I will go get some boxes put there to sort that out.

There is also a rattle sometimes that comes from the turbo waste gate which I youtubed and it seems to be a common problem on these cars, I need to basically adjust the actuator arm to stop this rattle, I will tackle this at some point or send it into a turbo place to have them have a look at this.

Anyways here are some pics I took of the car so far. Bluebiggrin

Just frikken love this red interior its absolutely beautiful.

I forgot to take a pic of the before but here is the mesh once I was done, it took allot of rolling out to get it to this state, its very delicate and dents easily if pressed too hard.

Yesterday I managed to find this Rollsmile
Just need to order the inside mesh and get it sprayed and fitted now. This will transform the car as I really don't dig the current non Msport front bumper.

Other than these things the car is lovely and allot of fun to drive. I will update with the things I do to the car and fix, so far I have been cleaning all the rubber seals and nooks and cracks everywhere in the car to try get it back to its former glory. Rollsmile

I had the same problem with my e90 regarding the vent adjusters i.e. Vent tabs. BMW don't sell them separately. You can get them from the states for $10 each. The installation takes 5 seconds. PM me for details

RE: 2009 Z4 35i Let the DIY and slight cosmetic modding begin.
Thanks for the compliments guys. Loving the car so far.

@ Gizmo your messing with my head here lol, let me just roll with these rims for a while haha. My bank account is already hating me lol. But damn those CSL's on this car look amazing. especially in gun metal grey.

Update:
I just ordered all the little niggly clips and shit that are missing from the car from BMW, will know tomorrow when all the stuff will arrive.

The one part I wasn't able to get was the OBD cover, have to buy the whole side wall, which comes to R830 which isn't bad but I think I know how to fix this OBD cover so might give that a whirl tonight with my trusty dremel.

Will update with pics later.

I also booked the car in tomorrow to get the exhaust sorted, get rid of this Raspy sound.
Will post a sound clip when its done, before and after.

RE: 2009 Z4 35i Let the DIY and slight cosmetic modding begin.
The xenon headlights are facing the ground and so I really have a very short viewing distance in front of me, these are auto adjustable xenons so I can't do anything about this problem other than get under the car and find the auto adjustable sensors.

So I had the car jacked up tonight to try get to the xenon auto adjuster sensors and I managed to get to the rear sensor, the little servo arm seemed to look like it was in the correct position and hadn't flipped around. So tomorrow when its on the lift I will have to check the front sensor out as I can't be arsed to get under the car like that again with my tiny hydraulic jack. I feel like my life may end at any moment Skit

All I can say is what a mission to get to that sensor, it really is in a funky position and hard to get tools in there to unscrew it.

Will take some photos tomorrow when its on the lift and show you guys where these sensors are if you have problems with the auto adjusters on your E90/92/89 etc I am quite sure they all have the same situation happening.

RE: 2009 Z4 35i Let the DIY and slight cosmetic modding begin.
Regardless of auto adjusting, one can still set the "neutral" position on the headlights themselves manually.

I dont know the e89 specifically, but have successfully set the aim on numerous different cars with Auto leveling and HID by simply twirling the adjusters on the headlights themselves. Just take a peek at the back of the lights..... there must be some sort of adjuster screw

If one tampers with the rods on the suspension, that could actually limit the range of your headlights. Best to leave those alone
