This Dakar Yellow car belongs to a new fanatic and has come in for tidying up purposes.

I shall finish tidying up a few issues and it will then go to Gizmo to have the clutch and rear main oil seal checked out.

444YYY was kind enough to read codes for us as our INPA does not speak 1994 ZA build M3s and we found 11 faults.

3 of them crucial enough to stop the car from performing like a 325 let alone an M3.

Below a few pics of what was found.

The tensioner pulley....well what remains of the tensioner pulley

Wrong fan blade

Wrong bolts on the water pump pulley which will lead to complications as a 32 spanner is not made that thin as to fit in the diminished space.
We will likely have to grind the heads so as to fit it in to release the viscous

Note how the bottom radiator hose has swelled and how the incorrect serpentine belt is being used "being a 5 rib belt instead of the normal 6 rib"

Leaking PS hoses.

Newly rebuilt vanos unit cross threaded.
It is worth mentioning that I met Zayd when he came to buy an overhauled vanos unit.
When I asked him whether his mechanic had done any vanos units he told me that his mechanic had done many...........
So the unit you see in this picture has traveled all of 100Kms.

The fan blade and viscous are from a Mercedes Benz....must take pics of it......
Pulley was eventually removed and here is what was holding it on teh water pump.
Normal length I think is 10mm and these were 20mm long cap screws.

Various pics.

This bracket should be held on by 3 bolts.
Only 1 was found
It supports all the sensor and vanos wiring and plugs

Throttle position sensor wiring plug with badly insulated wires and 1 not even connected.

All the wires are routed wherever.
It really is a shame

If this power steering hose is such a problem could one not make one from braided stainless steel?
Nope
The atf penetrates the rubber over time so it becomes an issue of porosity rather than "burstability".

That mechanic needs to be stoned... Okay maybe stoned is too severe.. Just remove his legs and fit Mercedes benz parts to him... :thumbdo:

How in the world...
