I wanted to post this in the F30 or 335i forum but i saw that i could not insert pictures.

Yesterday I went for a drive, and decided to push the car a bit. I did a pull in third gear, and just as the car got into boost, the car started to cut out and I got the drive train error and the car went into limb mode. I immediately stopped and found a code for cylinder 1 misfire, injection switched off. I cleared the codes and carefully home. The car idles fine and does fine when driving calmly. Decided to switch Coils but the issue stayed the same on cyl1. I then switched the spark plug to cyl2 and the misfire followed to cyl 2 with the same code. I'm guessing its time for new spark plugs?

I might go with NGK 1 step colder as im on an MHD stage 1 tune

I had that a bit over a year ago. Except my car didnt throw a code or go into limp mode. The guys at Xflow did the 1 step colder plugs. I also asked for new coils. Been running a hybrid turbo, E15 since with no issues. Also N55 PWG.

Might not be a bad idea to get some new coils myself aswell. These are still the original coils the car came out with from factory, after 150 000kms.

Yeah dude, those will be getting tired but great to change as preventative measure.
I had NGK 2 step colder plugs and it worked wonders on my N55 PWG, Stage 2

I thought of getting the NGK SILZKBR8D8S 1 step colder plugs, which is probably fine for my stage 1?

Yep it is for sure
I was super scared at first because before the misfire codes I had a Super-knocking code on cyl 6, but when i removed all the spark plugs, i probably put cyl 6 plug into number 1. When i logged the car yesterday wyen the misfire codes came, i had no timing cor on 6 or any other cyls expect for 1. And then i switched the plug to cyl 2 and the miss followed. At first i thought i had a bad injector, but from what i heard, the n55 has quite decent injectors and they last a while?

Yeah you right but thankfully I didnt have any of these issues on my car, I had it from 80k - 125k. Owner post me didnt have any of these issues except waterpump failed, battery needed. However coils, plugs and electrics were fine, XFLow and Xcede always checked my out whenever it got to them on the wear and tear items and they were fine. I ran E10 in every second tank and on fun days I would run E30 and the fuel pumps held fine. You not going through bearings or anything and these are expected issues, long term ownership and higher mileage

My car has never given me this issue before, i did however just hit 150 000kms haha. Still on original waterpump and performing excellent. Only mishap i had was a bad alternator which probably happened because of a bad belt which i never noticed for a while. Other than that, just normal maintenance. Although these spark plugs only have 20 000kms on them, I'm sure they should have lasted longer, even if I'm tuned? Could i possibly leave you my number, it seems you have far more knowledge than me, I'm still learning new things on this forum everyday haha.

I believe heat damages them which will be higher when tuned. Doesnt look like you have an intercooler upgrade. I have a 7.5-inch VRSF installed which has made quite a difference with consistency. When Xcede did my tune on E15, they did back-to-back runs with zero timing pull. The stock intercooler is shared with the N20 if not mistaken, i would get rid of it. A 5-inch stepped one or some alibaba one would be already an upgrade over stock.

Yeah I was thinking of getting a nice 5 inch intercooler, the 7.5 is too expensive for me. The stock intercooler will probably have to go.

You better off with the OEM 724's gapped 0.5'm from BMW which is a two-step colder plug

Unfortunately I already have the NGK SILZKBR8D8S installed, hopefully the misfire is gone, fetching the car tomorrow morning. If the issue persists, I'll be coming to you guys.

Let us know how it runs after the plugs.

If you can, throw up another log after, not plug-related, just interested to see if the timing cleans up on a proper pull.

Where do you fuel up? Ever tried a bit of E mix?

Hey man, got the car back, she runs great! I'll be sure to run a log later when it's a bit colder out, stock intercooler holding me back quite a bit. I've never tried e mixes before, not sure how it works yet lol.

In all honesty, the stock coolers hold more credit than what they are given. I'm still on stock to this day, ran it on Stage 2 without any problems.

Sure, it's an upgrade once you do it, but if you understand your car and don't drive it like a constant lunatic it handles Stage 2 just fine. You only heat soak in constant back2back runs but if you slam her and there is enough time to cruise for a bit after, the temps go down fairly quick on the stock cooler. You have MHD, that alone is a great guide since you have your temps at hand while you drive.

I decided to shift to 2+ on E20 recently, basically mixing E15 and letting the meth pick it up to E20 with the extra cooling while still on stock, still no problems. I'm not saying that a cooler upgrade is not better, it does make a difference and in the normal boost guide it should be one of your first upgrades.

Regarding the E Mix, get yourself some Eth, calculate what 10% of your tank capacity is and throw that amount into your tank at the pumps right before filling her up. That gives you E10. I'm pretty sure your fuel cap should indicate it too, have a look ;) . These cars LOVE proper fueling.

Well you do have meth injection from the looks of it. That on its own acts as an intercooler upgrade. Running tunes without an intercooler upgrade does lead to more knock/pre-detonation if not mistaken. A bad batch of fuel and high temps can be a recipe for disaster even if our cars can pull back power.

I felt more comfortable having as much cooling as possible. I am not a big fan of meth injection as its another failure point I dont want to deal with so got he biggest intercooler I could find. When I decide to go for more power, I will do DI only. DS25 HPFP and N63 EU5 injectors. Will only do meth injection if my builder/tuner says it is a must for extra cooling.
