Riaad's JCW

Some time back in 2023, I had a random itch for a turbo petrol car that's fun and doesn't totally break the bank. Options were slim from the BMW stable as I didn't want to deal with N54 and 55 dramas...

I convinced myself (and the wife) that a Cooper JCW is what we need. I put out a wanted thread https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/threads/f56-jcw.100275/#post-1522760 and it's been part of my search routine since. As things would have it, a Manual JCW turned out to be something of a rare sight, and I only ended up seeing about 3 since then on the market - each with their own issues or concerns...the search was rather slow, that I ended up purchasing the X3 30d instead, which was enjoyed for almost a year until being swapped with my Dad (after the F10 was sold).

This meant that the 330d no longer had a garage partner...but this did not last long !

As I still had my JCW Autotrader alerts active, after returning from a weekend away, on a late Sunday night, I decided to clear some emails, and there she was, waiting for me.

Called the ABM first thing in the morning to confirm the details (they certainly needed confirmation) viewed the car later that afternoon and the deal was done.

So here we go, an absolute unicorn of a find...

My NEW (well actually the Wife's) 2018 Mini Cooper JCW LCI1 Manual, finished in Moonwalk Grey Metallic with a shocking mileage of 9100 kms...9127kms to be precise on collection.

This JCW is as new as it could be, not a single scratch or dent in sight and a true 1 owner lady owner vehicle.

Its had 6 years under MP, with all services done (18 month intervals as per CBS), with roughly 2k kms between services. Its also had new front brake pads and spark plugs fitted at 7715 kms

Spec wise :
JCW Sport Seats
LED Headlights
HK Sound with Nav (touch screen)
Heads up Display
Gloss Black exterior trims
Pano Roof

Still can't believe this beauty is in my Garage, Need to get some proper pics, but have not had the chance to really drive the car as yet, but initial feedback is that it feels pretty exceptional.

Looking forward to the JCW Journey.

the Manual certainly suits the characteristics of the car...although I havent had the opportunity to test these in auto.

You know what is annoying, they are pretty decent in auto. The S/C models and the prince engined models really lived for the redline, the B48 is a bit dieselish in the power delivery lots and lots of midrange and the topend feels dead (it isn't just feels that way) so the older cars really suited a manual were you just beat on it as hard as you could, this one you shift 500rpm for the redline and miss nothing.

Still a fantastically well resolved product from BMW. Traction or front end grip is your enemy if you have Pirellis on. Throw them away and put on some eagles.

Yep, have to agree with how the B48 feels, full torque is available from as low as 1250rpms.

as with all modern cars, auto would no doubt be great...unfortunitely the Aisin 8sp in the JCW doesnt support XHP, and its difficult to get used to this once you daily the zf8 with XHP.

Currently have GY RFTs, plan on swapping these out for a wider tyre, likely Michelin.

I personally have zero issue with the Toyota 6 or 8 speed. Its smooth quick and responsive.

Mini life is awesome!
Unfortunately You cant fit wider than 225 on a Mini.
I think a remap will fix the lack of pull in the higher revs

Looking forward to more pics
