Hi guys

I recently enquired at ZF in Germiston about having my X5 gearbox serviced and asked if there'll be running any specials soon...

According to them there's no more specials but by being a BMW Fanatics member I can get 10% off?

Please can someone confirm

Thanks

Not sure what confirmation you need when ZF themselves confirmed it? Either way good deal from them.

Lol, I haven't come across it anywhere else and the lady at ZF who told me about it asked me for a "membership number" to claim the 10%

I assumed it meant username so hence why I asked if anybody got the 10% discount?

Got this quote on my G01 20d when enquired recently:

1. ZF gearbox service R7461 (incl VAT). Includes 10L of Life Guard 8 Oil, a new filter kit , a new filter the labor and all the bolts. However, they said that they first check whether a service is possible first by inspection.

2. Transfer case service is R450 (excl VAT). Includes oil and labour.

3. Differential service is R500 (excl VAT) for labour on front and rear. Customer to source diff oil from BMW.

They said it may take 2-3 hours for the services.

I still see this as not a bad price, given that the going rate was around R6900 in 2019.

Even the diff and Transfer case pricing is pretty good too.

Discounts are great but given that we are spending money on something that will last another 100k mileage and a very important part of the car, I would rather save up and get it done. (y)

Agree.
Their contact number is 011 457 0089.

Just need to find a gap in my calendar to book the car in.

This is interesting, I reached out to ZF Germiston and Alliyah Ismail told me that they are not doing diff services as they do not "have the machine" when I asked if they could change the diff oil.

He did confirm a 10% discount for BMW Fanatic members at least.

I contacted them yesterday and they didn't mention that. I assume they had the machine at that time?...

I reached out on the 27th of March, so really not long ago. So 2 weeks ago. My query was for a 530d (F series), however from my research that diff is used in multiple other BMW's as well.

Please let us know how it goes when you take your vehicle in.

I called Alliyah now to make a booking for 30 April.
She said that they can do Transfer Case, Front Diff, Rear Diff and gearbox services in one booking of 2-3 hours
All oils will be included, apart from the Front and Rear diff oils which I need to source from BMW.
I don't know if my car being xDrive and G01 had anything to do with them being able to do the diffs service?

When I called BMW, they said that they only change TC and Diff oils after the TC or Diff has been repaired or is leaking. They do not change oils as a preventative measure. This is strange because according to BMW USA, they recommend changing these oils (though not the ZF box oil) at certain mileages....

Hey All. For those interested, ZF is running a special for October on the gearbox service. I just made a booking for my gearbox service and diff oil change. Normal price is R7400, discounted price for October R5700 plus vat (sounds like the price I paid about 3 years ago).

Nice, so you are doing Gearbox and diff oil for 5.7k or is that just for Gearbox?

After months of procrastination, I finally did it....

been bugging the receptionist the whole week for an appointment, even though they were fully booked, but she managed to make a plan.

Left this morning at 5:45 and arrived at 6:50; the booking was for 7:30. Finished up at about 10:30.

Did the following:

- Gearbox service (new sump, filter, gasket and Oil) + Reset clutches

- New transfer case oil, wasn't able to recalibrate the VTG (tried a few times). The T case is almost out of spec according to the tech (my chain is sitting at like 17 something degrees, and 18 is their max acceptable, around 21 is where you'll feel shuddering)

- Replaced both Front and Back Diff fluid. The back fluid was still perfect, but the front was overdue. (took the BMW part numbers and bought the Ravenol equivalent, as it was like 1/4 the price). The back takes almost a litre, and the front is +/- 600ml. Quite a bit gets wasted when filling, but 1L of each is perfect

I'm OCD, so I stood with the mech the whole time, looked at every detail and asked a lot of questions. Xolani and Moe are both lekker guys.

total worked out to:

5700 excl VAT for the Gearbox
400 excl for the transfer case
Diffs were complementary

Just over R7k. (I still tried to squeeze them for the 10% Forum Discount:ROFLMAO:)

I don't notice any difference whatsoever, but I guess that's not the point. Just happy it's done.

I booked mine in for Thursday.

G01 X3 20d Xdrive (98k)

Going to do Transmission, transfer case and both diffs.
BMW asking +- R4000 for diff oil though.

Differential oil
Rear diff = BMW Hypoid axle oil G3(70W80 GL-5) part number: 83222413512
Front diff = BMW Hypoid axle oil G2(75W-85 GL-5) part number: 83222413511

Can I just buy LiquiMoly of the same spec for 1/4 of the price or do you guys recommend sticking to OEM on this?
