Went through my first tank of diesel last night with 90km left to spare. Wanted to fill up at 50km range but was on my way home from Franschhoek and didn't want to chance it.

Considering this was 90% traffic driving and 10% open highway driving, I am super happy with these numbers.

The diesel life is good!
Once you go for the D you never turn back????

Once you decat or downpipe this will drop by 0.2L/100km

Best sub R140 000 daily's out there!
Problem is the masses have now caught on, and they go fast, and for a premium.

If you could get it to Centurion, you could try Leatherboyz. Happy with how the steering wheel came out in my car.

Perhaps check if you could “courier” / arrange with someone on here geographically close to them.

100% these guys. The only place in SA I would bother with

Any idea on their pricing?

Started noticing a squeak on cold start, that would continue until the car was warm-ish and then would disappear. Opened the bonnet and listed around the belt tensioner area and it sounded like the tensioner was on its way out.

IMG-0929.jpg

Old tensioner out:

IMG-0920.jpg

INA tensioner from Goldwagen (OE, and checked that wasn't made in China :))

IMG-0926.jpg

IMG-0916.jpg

No stock of Continental belts in SA. No experience with Dayco. Will see how it goes, if it gives me issues I'll replace with an OEM belt.

IMG-0922.jpg

IMG-0924.jpg

Checked the vibration damper while I was down there, still looks great.

IMG-0917.jpg

Put it all back together, no noises. Must've been the tensioner itself, as the pulleys were still good. 10 minute job to do, must be the easiest bit of maintenance I've ever done on a car!

Car booked in at ZF next week for the gearbox service. Looking forward to it!

Fuel consumption seems to be sticking around the 6.2 - 6.4L/100km mark in traffic driving. Stoked.

Mine visited ZF on Friday for diagnostics and based on the results, potentially what we believe to be its first gearbox service, on 186000km. All parameters were in range, hence they advised it safe to proceed. I'm sure you won't notice as big a difference due to the lower mileage, but that was R5600 well spent! It's so much smoother and more responsive.

Also, your fuel consumption makes me envious. I'm currently on 7.6, and that includes a fair bit of highway driving. Admittedly, due to the gearbox's shifting behaviour, it was suggested to me to drive it a bit more vigorously, in order for the gearbox to relearn and possibly improve the adaptions.

Finally, this post does make me wonder if I should take a closer look at the pulleys and tensioners in my car. The car was thoroughly inspected, but I feel like there are one or two engine bay noises that shouldn't be there

That's good to know! Mate of mine took his sub-90k car to ZF as well and said its was a noticeable improvement too. I think just resetting the adaptations alone will make a big difference on most cars. I've noticed sometimes at very light load, the 2-3 change is a little harsher than the rest. But if I apply more throttle it doesn't do it. Maybe I am also too light on throttle 😅

When I had my F25 X3’s gearbox service done at 92,000km I noticed absolutely no difference. I think often it’s placebo or adaptations. Perhaps maybe on a higher mileage box there’s an actual difference in how it drives to be gained.

The windshield trim was pretty tired, car is still on its original windscreen. So thought I'd give it a bash.

IMG-1156.jpg

Getting the old one out and cleaned up took about an hour, better to just take your time with it.

IMG-1160.jpg

Got the new trim, pretty cheap with a nice discount.

IMG-1161.jpg

IMG-1162.jpg

Done. Not a very fun job and not something I want to do again any time soon. But at least it won't bug me anymore.

IMG-1163.jpg

Consumption update: hovering around the 6.0/6.1L/100km in town only driving. Doing a long distance trip this weekend so will see how it really does on the open road.

May I ask where you got the window trims? My rear window trims need to be replaced.

I know 6.0-6.1L/100km in town is even more impressive, but with my previous 320D the first long trip I did was CPT-Kimberley. Arrived with an average speed of 135km/h (nothing silly, just a steady 140km/h on cruise control and a single quick stop) and consumption of 5.0L/100km-- blew my mind 🤯

Ordered directly from BMW. You can give them that part number, they should have in stock. Was R450ish IIRC.

Dude the consumption is incredible. Makes driving in traffic not seem like a complete waste.

Thank you, I'll give them a call, price sounds very reasonable

Wow, what a find!!! Congratulations! What a minter!
Loving the thread so far! I have been meaning to replace my windscreen trim too, so thanks for the part number!

Went and had a 63mm downpipe fitted yesterday. The turbo spool is quite pronounced now, no volume change while driving normally. But when you get on it, it sounds quite angry 😂 I’m quite surprised. Seems like torque comes in a little sooner which is nice. Sat in crazy bumper to bumper traffic yesterday after I picked it up so will be difficult to say if consumption has improved or not. Will monitor over the course of the week. There is a very slight increase in diesel smell at idle, but nothing crazy. So far so good. Very tempted to have it tuned now…

Any plans for software to bypass the EGR and swirl flap? The difference will be chalk and cheese.

Tune it! Tune it! Tune it!
You will thank us

The downpipe should drop your overall consumption by 0.2L/100km once you stop doing your sound tests lol

A remap and XHP flash you'll have such a fun daily that sips fuel.
