Found the E90 320d replacing the E82 120d

Nothing much to update. Here she is side by side with my wife's F30. Car has been running extreme well and putting on some serious distance these past couple of months due to, soon-to-change, working conditions.

Not really into cosmetic upgrades, so you won't be seeing any of those. Just maintaining both to the best of my ability as these cars serve us so well. Rear tyres coming towards the end of their lifespan, so looking to replace in 2 months or so. Eagle F1's been a real treat after much skepticism- lasted me a good 35 000km thus far.

Been toying with the idea to buy a 330d (contemplating F25 30d) as discussed. My wife and I are looking to relocate closer to her work towards the end of the year. Only thereafter the process in acquiring a 330d gets serious- she's already onboard lol. Still browsing as I know said cars are hen's teeth.

My E90 doing what it needs to do, effortlessly so. Since the start of January, she's doing 130km per day every second week.
My commute to work has little to no traffic, it's rural and rarely any inclines, and considering the speeds I'm traveling at, I saw consumption figures as low as 3.9l/100km.

Fitted an aftermarket downpipe in December to allow for better flow. Not much of a difference since I had hollowed out cats. I can only hear the difference, deeper tone, at revs above 2500rpm.

So, here she is. Nearly 14 years old and still doing the thangs.

Who did the downpipe and what was the cost? Is the smell quite bad after doing it? That's one of the things I'm not so keen on, and why I'm putting off doing it on mine.

Howzit bro congrats on your beautiful 320d. Profit exhaust charged me R2.7k. Professional workmanship. Highly recommend them.

In terms of the smell, really not something to write home about. Maybe only on cold starts in an enclosed space like your garage, but that's about it.

The benefit of the downpipe outweighs the possible foul odor it might emit.

Update time

I posted about a rotten egg smell in the battery compartment a few days ago. It turned out to be hydrogen sulfide from the battery itself due to it being overcharged by the alternator.

New alternator fitted today and everything seems back to normal. Will still monitor the battery closely hoping it didn't take damage.

On another note. Whilst the alternator was removed, the technician had a chance to properly clean my intake manifold, throttle body etc. Was surprise at the amount of carbon and sludge in said parts.

The car is on 237 000km now and I deleted the egr around the 200 000km mark. So, carbon build-up most probably occured prior to that.

Other than that. No complaints, 320d all day.

Asking for better consumption from my 320d is pushing it🙈,but I totally get you. Maybe my ECU is still adapting 150km after the clean.

Last week, I noticed the low coolant warning light came on during my drive to work.

Fortunately, I always keep a 50:50 coolant mix in the car, so I was able to top it up—took about 1l to bring it back to the correct level.

Upon closer inspection, I found a slow coolant leak coming from the fitting where the expansion hose connects to the upper radiator hose.

I parked the car for a few days while waiting for the replacement part.

Everything sorted and will monitor closely.

Looking at the pics, this is actually my twin.

I put on the front splitters, but I took them off as I prefer the "cleaner" look without them.
