My G82 M4

Hey guys, its been a while since I posted, mostly due to hectic work, life and travel commitments and also I have been too busy enjoying my F82 M4. However, somewhere in September, I had the rare chance of having some free time on a Saturday and decided to take the garage queen out for a drive and was going past BMW and decided to go in and have a look around to see what's "available".

My plan was always to sell the F82 early next year, as the motor plan is expiring in August next year, so figured I might as well start looking. After a short walk around the showroom, I had a salesman approach me and after brief chat, and even though I said I was just looking, he took the time to explain, show me options on the new 2025 M3/M4 and the M2 as well. They even did a quick evaluation of my car and promised to get back to me with an offer. One thing I can say, is that while most sales guys are pushy and just trying to get the sale done, I was quite fortunate that the guy that assisted me, did nothing of the sort and actually listened to me and my requirement. I did not need a new car, I needed a weekend toy and considering I had my F82 for 11 months and only did a little above 5000kms, a new car would be wasted on me.

I was going to M Fest and after mentioning that he suggested I find him there as he would be part of the team at the festival and they usually run promos and discounts on demos and new cars and I could see the options available and decide. Fast forward to M Fest and the wife and I eventually get to the showroom and the wife is immediately drawn to the white M2 they had with the full carbon package, so drawn, that after finding the sales guy and a quick chat, I put a deposit down on the M2, although not 100% convinced, but you know what they say, Happy Wife, Happy Life... :)

So the wife and I go to do the drifting and were we not lucky enough that all the drift cars were M2s. Long story short, after the drift event, jumped out and told the wife, sorry, but the M2 is not for me, I dont know if its age(safely in my 40s), but there is just something about the M2 that did not appeal to me. So a quick brisk walk to the showroom section and after what probably looked like a matriculant trying to study a whole years' syllabus of calculus in 15 mins, something on the list caught my eye, the colour (my favourite, even though I constantly complain about maintenance), the interior and the price(based on a discussion I had with a BMW HQ employee I met while wondering around the M Fest).

So in what seemed forever(10 days later), BMW Century City, had my new car delivered to them from the factory and ready for collection. Yes, I know I have already said that I did not need a new car and its a waste considering it is probably gonna take a couple months just to complete the 2000kms for the break in service, and that I only ever drive it on a Sunday, occasional Saturday....I somehow have a feeling I am going to be driving this one a lot more :)

Will share my thoughts as I get more kms done, but first impressions....its a beast! The power is crazy yet controllable and I am loving the flat bottom steering wheel

Congrats! Enjoy her to the fullest.
I have always loved the look of the G80 and G82.

Regarding the break in period, what is the process for a BMW for interest sake?
This is something I was wondering about recently, a friend of mine got the new Mustang GT and he was advised by the dealership that there is no break in period necessary.

The other thing I was wondering about is how many people who purchase new cars actually care about the break in period as majority of people buying new cars do not plan on keeping them for longer than 3 to 7 years and most of that time the vehicle is under warranty or motorplan.

If you're buying used, well, the break in does not matter as you likely had no control over it anyways.

Thanks bro, according to BMW for the first 2000km the car is “locked” in terms of power. So instead of having the full 390kw available to you it is dialed back to around 320/330 and you can basically drive it as hard as you want.

I have to stress that the above is verbatim what I was told by BMW and no expert on the process and this car in particular.

Personally I have always taken it easy for the first 1000 in any car I have been fortunate to purchase new and only after would push it a bit.

This sounds like typical uneducated sales person talk. BMW simply provides a recommendation to not exceed 5,000 rpm / 170 km/h for the first 1 or 2 thousand km's. No more power is 'unlocked' after run-in :ROFLMAO:

Congrats by the way, lovely color!

Thanks for all the all the comments guys and the likes. The little I get to drive this beast the more I am enjoying it.

Really wanted to get the protection on the paintwork sorted out ASAP got the PPF done on the car towards the end of last week.

Think the guys did an amazing job, really impressed with the workmanship, communication and updates I constantly received through the process.

Will let the pics do the rest of the talking..... :)

Great intro to this thread..you pulled the trigger on an amazing machine..they look magnificent in person. How you doing with all the stares..not many of these on the road at the moment. Is the car as scary as the F82 at max settings according to you? Edit..reserve reply for after the break in period.

Thanks Bro, not many stares, well considering I have not really had much time to drive it with travels etc. Think the F82 got more attention lol.
Never push the car as yet, but its not as scary by any means compared to the F82, thinking of the right word to use, I want to say more "sophisticated"
