Hey guys, today after doing about 40kms my car started making this weird chirping noise when i am standing still and rev it. I saw a couple of posts saying the PCV could cause a chirping noise but the whole valve cover was done in 2022. I will attach a video any help would be appreciated.
Car is a f30 335i PWG 129xxx kms

Hi,
Your PCV has no bearing on your valve cover being replaced, as it is a separate part even though it resides on the cover, it can be defective and you have to have it replaced anyway.
Anyway, 2022 is almost 2 years ago... there are kits to replace it separately as some forums have indicated but it doesn't seem very easy and not worth the time and effort.

Depending on what other work the car needs, you can decide either way.

It sounds like PCV (as far as a video allows us to diagnose) but you can just do the PCV test.
Get the car to "chirp", either by slight rev or turning on your AC and once it does open your oil cap, if it's PCV the sound will instantly just go away since the pressure is released. It might be one of the other valves too since there is more than one so you can also remove the small cover on the PCV to expose the breather pipe, with the car started hold a lighter close to the pipe and if it sucks the flame in you have a leak.

The PCV repair kits are cheap and easy to install if you follow some online guides, took me 15 minutes (both times I tried it) but it's a waste of money since it never fixed it for more than a week in my case. You need to get the entire valve cover done.

Since you have MHD and some other mods this is something you need to get used to, we squeeze more power out of the cars so things take more of a beating.

You're in Cape Town, reach out to Ashley from @Xcede Performance and have him take a look at it.

Quick Update. Seems like the OFHG started leaking again car is at the dealer for further inspection might be the cause of the chirping sound due to oil dripping on the belt. Atleast it is still under warrantee. If not it would be the PCV

Further update, turns out it was not the main OFHG but the oil thermostat housing that was leaking most likely due to the new seal on the OFHG having it replaced will update once the car is back from BMW

They also fell around from one thing to the other when mine went, I'm not saying this in your case though, but I would ask for a vacuum test to be done on the cover before I take the car just for ease of mind.

Ok will do is a vacuum test a long job? Did you replace the valve cover with a OEM because they quoted me 9k for that just in parts and i just spent around 15k for OFHG + PLUGS + BRAKES

The vacuum test takes around 1min for them or anyone with the tool.

Yep, did OEM, twice now and yep around 10K sounds normal.

Damn ok thanks will have a look, i did have a quick look at Xcede will see how things work out being in Stellies limits where i can go for repairs will see how the BMW treats the car this time as last time covers were broken off and bolts were missing so maybe i should start looking around at options...

The chirping noise did go away once the gasket started leaking worse not sure of that is a good or a bad thing

Sorted now, oil thermostat was leaking so it was replaced. BMW performed a vacuum test and all is well for now. My first BMW not sure how ready i was for all the maintenance but happy its sorted.

My S55 almost always makes chirping noises when I drive. Seems to come from the rear tyres. I have given up on solving the issue.
