BMW 118i F20 - headlight switch backlighting

Hi guys

I recently noticed that the backlight for the headlight switch is always illuminated even when the headlight switch is in the OFF position when the car is switched on with the engine running. (see attached pic)

From what I can recall - previously the backlight for the headlight switch would only light up when the headlight switch is turned on for the park lights or headlights.

Please could you guys check if your car exhibits the same behaviour - in other words does the backlight of the headlight switch remain illuminated all the time when the car is switched on even if the headlight dial is in the off position ?

Could it be a software glitch on the car's computer that needs to be reset / recoded ?

Can this be coded to only illuminate when the dial on the headlight switch is set to ON for the parking lights or main headlights ?

Thank you

Thank you for the reply.

Do you perhaps know if it can be coded out ?
I'm sure you can using advanced user settings in Bimmercode etc or by pulling the globe but I don't see why you would want to?

Like Modocrat said, it's there for your safety theoretically, if you can't see it in the dark that means you need to search for it and draw your attention off the road. Not only during the night but tunnel runs etc too.

This not only counts for the light switch but all switches out of driving sight like the sunroof switch too as an example.
