technical X3 electric tailgate motor sound/noise?

Are you supposed to hear the gears of the motor for the electric tailgate? Sort of like a soft grinding sound.

Dealer says it’s normal. I don’t think so.

This doesn't sound normal.
the boot movement is definitely not a silent operation, but its not meant to sound broken either.
If you have Motorplan, take it to bmw (or a different bmw dealer) for a second opinion.

From my experience with a X5 and Mini countryman - it should be a smooth hydraulic sound.
Your description does not sound rite. Next time you are at the dealer, why dont you just go to a car that has an electric boot, then show the service advisor the difference.

Master technician at the same dealership agreed with me that it’s broken. Getting both replaced at their cost!
