discussion 535d power

So yesterday we went to view a 535d and then we drove it for the fun of it all and the car felt great and everything but when we launched it, it kept spinning and spinning and spinning until 4th gear and when we floored it again at 120, the traction light came on until 130 then went away again and it finally hooked, so is the car just this powerful stock or is it possibly tuned? Also has new tires on with lots of tread left.

what were the condition and brand of the rear tyres?

I only deal with 450nm on a daily basis, so I am no expert on cars over 600nm, but I'm sure the car should hook from 2nd gear even with all that torque. Does it sound stock, downpipe?

Honestly don't know, i also thought it was a bit loud on the inside but i can't tell and if i were to tell you i'd be wrong.

Sounds bone stock to me, brobeans.
Might be, I heard the turbo spool very clearly in the interior as we drove it, and it smelled a bit strong (not like a 70's merc truck though) but you smelled it after about 5 mins of idling in the open air while we waited for it to warm up so possibly has a downpipe but as I said I am unsure. Also the first n57 car I've been in since 2018 so all of this is maybe normal.

Does it have the onboard power and nm torque gauge? Full throttle the car and see what the readings suggests. Otherwise, obd scanner to measure boost pressure whilst full throttle.

Ah damn forgot about the sport gauges, I didn’t think it was tuned until a friend who is very knowledgeable said it might be tuned then I started to question it.

Yea bud, I was being sarcastic... The car is obviously not stock if it's performing as described.

From what you describe, sounds like it could be tuned.
They go like stink but with slight smell gives it away but the turbo spool on these cars are loud. My X3 and the X3 30d that I drove both have very audible turbo spool and whistle noises for stock cars too so cannot only go on that.

Went to drive it again today on a much better road surface and spun in 1st and a bit in 2nd but hooked very well in 3rd, tires were also a bit warmer as we drove it around a bit before going ape and I think it was a combo of cold tires and bad surface yesterday. But the diesel smell is still there, smells like the old 3.0 tdv6 in the discovery 4 but a slight bit stronger for reference.

Sounds like it's in limp mode to me....

Imagine what it can do once you clear codes....

Lol. I have DPs and stage 2 on my diesels. The biggest giveaway is the turbo spools. It's very loud! You cannot stand next to the car while idling. The fumes will dead you.

Unless it's a mild stage 1 with the DP still in place. Highly unlikely. People generally go straight stage 2 with DP. It's not a bad thing TBH. I'd buy a well maintained diesel that has a stage 2 tune as I know then that the EGR and all that stuff is coded out. Also the turbos will be running cooler etc... Lots of benefits to stage 2 tunes...

Might be in limp mode but it never threw a drivetrain malfunction, started up quick with no odd sounds and no lights on the dash or gongs of any sort, also had 2 more people in the car yesterday so maybe the 120kg's in the back helped with traction but still it was happy to stretch its legs even after 200k and did so back to back with no issues.

I was kidding about the limp mode.
