Locked key in the boot

Hi all,

So while I'm waiting for a locksmith to come out, are there any other ways to open the boot.

The spare key is at home and the house key is also in the car.

Thank you

Just use the myBMWapp ?

(If it's a f series or newer)
I tried to register my details, but the registration number is still linked to the previous owner.

The locksmith opened the boot(so relieved)

Curious to hear how that came about? Don’t these cars not lock when they sense the key is in the car? Or is the boot area a bit too far from the key sensor?

I've done this through being absent minded.

You lock the car ahead of time because then you can just close the boot and walk away. But your mind gremlins wipe your memory of the immediate and you stupidly put your key down because your hands are busy and it is in the way only to forget about that too. 30 Seconds later you are done and pop the boot down safe in the knowledge that the car will not lock with the keys inside. A few moments later memory starts trickling back and you start checking for the key and come to the realisation that you screwed the system and yourself.

Locksmith time.

So I came from shops with the key/keyring around my finger whilst holding 2 PNP bags and holding my daughters my other hand.

Pressed the boot only button to open, then dropped the bags with the key in the boot.

My daughter wanted something out of the one bag, so without picking up the key again I closed the boot 🫣.

That can happen very easily. Happened to me. Its only it was Tops bags and we were on our way to Goudini. Spare key was at home. Fortunately I could unlock the car using the My BMW app.

I managed to call BMW to remove the previous owner's details and register mine.

I can now use the lock, unlock, lights, horn and I see a ventilation option as well.

I did this one many years ago in my Jetta 5.
Also did it a few times with the F30 however the keyless entry system just popped the boot open every time and flashed the hazards.
Have not had a chance to use the BMW app, maybe in future 😎

With the F80 even if you lock the car and then close the boot with the key in it doesn’t latch the boot.

This happened to me before and I was swearing at the car wondering why the boot would not close. Only after the 5-6th attempt I saw the key lying in the boot. Took the key out and it closed.

Or was this a flook? I need to test to see if it was.

Damn this is not lekker, my Polo does the same but the wife's Hyundai will not lock and it will beep until you remove the key out of the car.

OP - maybe remove the way the guy opened it because some okes might use that to break into other cars.
