discussion F87 M2 Comp options

Hi all,

For pure interest sake I have the following questions regarding the F87 M2 Comp:

1. Was adaptive suspension standard or an option?
2. Does the M2 logo on the seats light up?
3. Was there an option for an upgraded OEM exhaust?
4. Were electric seats standard?
5. We're adaptive LED lights standard?
6. Any compared F20 HK sound to the HK sound in the F87?
7. Carbon fiber interior trim was an option right?

For current or past owners, what were the must have options for you on this car? The cabin is very similar to my M140i, but of course better M seats and some extra buttons on the steering wheel and around the gear lever. I see very few examples with heated seats.

Looking forward to some feedback. :)

Not an owner but it was on my shortlist between my 4C and a GT4. I DMed you.

Best is to drive as much as you can at that price point. Don't be brand blinkered. You will find the proper upgrade you want.

I'd imagine it's extremely difficult to move from a 140i to an M2. The additional speed is almost negligible and the interior quality is essentially like-for-like. I think TurboLlew has the best advise, if you're entering that segment try to get seat time with as many cars (even stuff out of left field) as you can.

Howzit.. let me see how many of these I can answer.

1. Was adaptive suspension standard or an option? - standard
2. Does the M2 logo on the seats light up? - yes it does when you open car but switches off just like interior lights
3. Was there an option for an upgraded OEM exhaust? - yes you can get an M performance exhaust
4. Were electric seats standard? - no optional extra
5. We're adaptive LED lights standard? - not sure but I think so
6. Any compared F20 HK sound to the HK sound in the F87? - pretty similar but I think the M comp is better
7. Carbon fiber interior trim was an option right? - Yes it was an option

so I moved from a 140 to M2 comp. had it for almost a year. its a weapon. more settled over bumps than the 140, mine was somewhat of a weird spec. its doesn't have electric folding mirrors but has heated seated. lol.. It has manual seats which I prefer over electric ( these take forever to move around when people get in and out). consumption is higher I am sitting on 12.0 with moderate driving. easy 15 or more on "those drives". its an exciting car! on slow easy drives the DCT can get frustrating and rolls back blah blah. my review is all over the place but if you looking for a daily keep the 140, if you looking for a weekend weapon than M2 all the way! I think the 140 is easily the biggest bargain in the market ( rather was) by far and an awesome all rounder. maybe look at F80 M3 as well if you need to space and comfort

You have adaptive suspension on your non-CS comp?

1. Was adaptive suspension standard or an option? Only came on the CS
2. Does the M2 logo on the seats light up? Yes
3. Was there an option for an upgraded OEM exhaust? Yes
4. Were electric seats standard? No I had spec'd manual seats because they go lower
5. We're adaptive LED lights standard? Yes
6. Any compared F20 HK sound to the HK sound in the F87? Very similar
7. Carbon fiber interior trim was an option right? Standard on my comp

Drive one, it's more than just the power. I had opted for a manual because I like driving and was not a fan of the DCT in daily driving. I had zero desire to mod the M2, it put it's power down well and I had a few DCT guy ask if I was modded because we ran neck and I'd pull top end. Surprisingly I made a fair amount more torque and slightly more power on the dyno than my mate with his DCT comp (Maybe a Wednesday car?).

I regret selling it and have driven plenty cars that I thought would be a worthy replacement and they have all (to me) come up short. I've been looking for a manual ever since, but they don't exist it was a unicorn spec more CS's came in manual than Comps in SA.

A big factor for me is the ride quality. Can I ask what tyre set up you are running and how it goes? I find with the 140 it gets quite bumpy at times.

In my view it was better but the non run flats also played a significant part. I found the ride was better than my F20 M135i not as jarring a fair amount more compliant.

I have another question, does the F87 M2 Comp come with an LSD as standard?
Any M comes with an LSD as standard.

I am glad you are scratching the itch. If you want it go get it. You were talking about the 140 as a long term car some time back and your needs and wants have changed. Same with an M, if it doesn’t work for you anymore, sell it (at most times losing less money on it than the rest of the stable bar a diesel maybe).

Enjoy the search and drive competitors as well.

The M2 has a host of options to buy as well, not cheap but good non the less.
MPerformance Exhaust + CF tips
763M Style wheels
MPerformance steering (2 options) digital and non digital
CF bonnet
CF boot - yes boot
CF front splitter
CF rear spoiler
CF rear diffuser
MPerfornance coilovers (height and damper adjustable) - They are actually KW coilovers rebranded.
Host of interior CF bits
Puddle logo lights
CF boot Wing

There are a few others, all of these lets you still keep your motorplan in place and is available directly from BMW.

Also agree on the manual seats, better than to electric in my opinion
