Hi all,

What is the best way to do diagnostics scans, code reading, code clearing, coding on an E39 M5? Pre Facelift 2000 model

thanks!

INPA is very comprehensive, and covers just about everything. I had Carly as well, but sold that once I had my INPA up and running.

You will need the cable, not sure if any adapters are needed for the E39. Hopefully somebody else will weigh in that knows. Software is available online. Google "bmw standard tools"

Agree, use INPA, software "freely" available, you will just need the USB cable. For my 540, I need the round connector that plugs in under the hood, cost about R800 IIRC

Thanks,

I've heard there can be issues with the port inside the car, is that why you went with the round engine bay port?

Where did you get your cable from?

The normal OBD port (in my car anyway) is basically useless, the round one has access to all the modules. I bought it on bid or buy, but have a quick google, they are freely available:

Use the e46fanatics forums to get the links:

Using the BMW Standard Tools installer you will get INPA,EDIBIAS (cable driver I believe), NCSExpert (can tweak alot more settings than carly etc), and WinKFP (the one tool I never really used).
