Motoplan extension

Hello members,

My f20 120d motorplan is coming to and end in September.A bmw Consultant called me this morning and has provided me with an option to extend by 1 & 2 years respectively.

1 year is roughly 23k and 2 years 44k. I think it's rather steep for an additional year.

What other options can I look at via third party to cover any major component failure down the line? The b47 is a great engine and considered very reliable.

To throw a spanner in the works here,I am considering stage 1 file and egr delete and swirl flaps.

I got new pads and disks about 3 months ago and oil service due shortly. Oil service intervals are 30k so won't require this in the some time.

Open to all suggestions and comments.

For a diesel car that is getting older, 10,000km are the recommended oil service intervals. BMW's recommended intervals are too long and can be argued to be a money saver for them for cars on Plan. With our dusty and dry climate, more frequent oil changes is advised.

Volvo advise more frequent oil changes on their older diesel cars depending on driving conditions. Toyota uses 10,000km intervals on all their diesel vehicles. VAG cars use 15,000km intervals.

BMW is smoking something if they allow 30,000km oil changes. The French also do something similar, with obviously a European driving condition in mind. In African conditions, that will not work.

Interesting to note that once MP expired (and my car is covered by the Black Oil plan), the intervals are set to 10000 km every time BMW changes the oil.

What that is crazy!! I will be doing 10k intervals going forward.30k is just crazy!!

If you intend keeping your car definitely switch to those shorter intervals (or annual). A reminder that if you have a car on plan, BMW will gladly do the services cash for you. They are not particularly expensive (and certainly not expensive relative to premature engine failure!)

Looking at the black oil service it's good value for money. I may go this route if I don't extend the plan (most likely at this point).

I make use of the Motorite Warranty. If you take it out while the car is still under plan, you get awesome cover for the first two years.

The price is about R22k for two years.

I never had a problem on any of my claims, as long as your service history is up to date.

Also look at Innovation Group bud.

Definitely not worth extending plan on a 20d. They so reliable.

2. Maintenance Plan (covers brakes discs and pads, scheduled services, but no mechanical/electrical warranty cover). From R20k for 3 years/9 services.
3. Service plan (covers basic services, but no brakes). From R6k for 3 years/3 services.
4. Oil plan (covers engine oil service only). From R4k for 3 years/3 services.
5. Warranty extension. Limited mechanical/electrical cover on various time and mileage options.

I decided to extend my Motorplan because I did not have sufficient ownership time with the car to be comfortable that it has no issues. But after another year, if it still behaves, then I will not extend the plan further, but may consider the cheaper options above.

Buy the extended motorplan if you are due for big maintenance items soon or Buy the BMW warranty, please stay away from 3rd Party warranty companies. Imagine phoning a call center to get approval for work to be completed. Did that and never again!
