Do you think this will be a future classic?

So looking at what astronomical prices old bmws are fetching i was pondering if there might be one i can buy use and enjoy that will appreciate over say the next 10 years.

Only requirement was 2 seater either roadtster or coupe.

I really like the z4 but the m version is already out of my price range and the rest are just too plentiful to be unique.

Now i know the z3 came across as too soft but i really think the design is timeless and in 3l manual guise has all the right traits.

What do you guys think?

As a garage queen and occasional Sunday use only, this would retain its value or even appreciate.

May be worthwhile as an investment.

I was actually thinking about this topic and also thought the Z4M would be a good investment to purchase now. An E34 M5 also seems to be a good candidate...

Z4M would get my vote, without a doubt underrated and will definitely go up in the next decade.
Z4M
E36M
E46M
635CSI
E92M
All in a similar price range that isn't crazy high, but you would need to do some TLC.

Agree with your list, I’d add E39 M5 to it.

E92 LCI (especially later models…2012/2013) are becoming sort after. First and last M3 V8

E46M prices have started to sky rocket, wont even mention CSL version that fetches up to R2m

635ci, id say falls in same bucket as E28 535i/M5…they have already earned “classic” status

Z4M (Manual) might follow the steps of Z3M Coupe, given its rarity, prices will climb in the next couple of years

A really clean Z4M in an unusual colour, like sepang bronze, with low miles will eventually be a R1m car in my view.

The rest of the mentioned cars either already are or are well on their way to being wildly expensive. A base Z3 3lSi will likely not lose much value but I don't think it'll ever become wildly expensive either - they made a ton of Z3s, it's a non-M car and it's a convertible only (well, you got non-M coupe's overseas but not here).

As with all cars - buy something you are happy with, especially if it's an enthusiast car, that way you won't stress paying the maintenance and so on, and if it's worth what you paid +CPI, you can smile. If not - you still at least enjoyed the ride.

Well said.

Best time to buy a Z4M roadster was 2 years back where people couldn't give them away. The second best time is now before they are all truly insane.

I share sentiments above of the Z3 being a good fun car to buy and enjoy without losing much money, but not likely to become one of these crazily priced things.

On that note, TBH many are already not worth the asking prices - E36s and E39s especially. The gems are there if the bank balance allows, but everyone jumping on the bandwagon and advertising parts cars for lots of money can bugger off.

I hear you but i know it will never be a million rand car in my lifetime but a n/a 6 cylinder roadster in good condition should increase in value. I cant believe the prices on E34s now.
