Bmw M6 damage Old Mutual nightmare

Well my excess is 10k, apparently there's a hidden additional excess of R6800 because no other vehicle was insured. (Not mentioned in my policy)

My worry is not my no claims, my concerned is that my insurance is trying to stiff me and only give me a net figure of R13000 or I have to have the car repaired with Renew it.

If I want it at a place such as ABS midrand all the will offer me is R13000 after my access to assist with the damage.

I recorded the manager this evening lying saying he never promised me the aftermarket parts would not devalue my car. Fortunately I warned him I was recording the call.

The corrupt little cartel will also have the details of the repair including that it was not at an approved repair centre and that it was repaired with (let's be blunt) pirate parts in their private database. When the Devi Show delved into it, the repair histories of all cars are indeed out there 'somewhere'. There is nothing stopping another insurer or 'organ' of the motor trade down the line using this info to your detriment. If you listen to the segment and observe the behaviour of those sitting with the information it is quite telling.

Can you share the damage report from abs? I’m struggling to understand how did they get to R150k damages…. I stand to be corrected but surely the chassis can’t be bent from such a low speed impact , right ?

Is the window mechanism, windows , central locking , mirror still working ?

ABS also repaired the door on my 335 without replacing it and did a top notch job , so something just isn’t adding up.

Hope it's a heads up for everyone on the forum to stay far away from old mutual/iwyze.

Foolishly you assuming old mutual big name must be OK. Think again.

I’m so shocked Old Mutual is like this. I would have assumed like you did a name like Old Mutual would be decent enough insurance company. This is really piss poor from them. Thanks for the heads up and I will stay far far away with anything old mutual from now. What happened to the old days of 3 quotes and the insurance company chooses the middle one. Santam have been very fair and reliable when you tell old mutual to go f themselves.

Also isn't adding up to me I'll be honest

Central locking and mirror still working.

The carbon fibre panel is damaged and there's a graze in the black plastic of the door card below.

Front fender looks OK to me but the panel gap between the front fender and the a pillar is out now.

Also there's a scrap on the front fender where it meets the door.

Window mechanism is making a banging/clank when the window goes down. The window doesnt go up when the door closes, guessing some sort of issue with the soft close. View attachment HP22JDGP.PDFView attachment 1239732_Quote.pdf

That seems out the window. They now use the online digital assessment and that's all they go by. For the last month I have been trying to explain to them there's far more damage and their digital assessment hasn't captured it.

Even the window switch/carbon fibre part they have quote in their assessors quote is the wrong part number.

They have refused abs midrand so I have asked for another bmw approved workshop to atleast give a quote.

Even offered get more quotes, to try and find a fair resolution or atleast a better option than Renew it and this is the response I got.

I had a look at the quote from ABS and without part numbers to understand what they are actually referencing, there is something really dodgy going on there... They quoted R38k for a door, R48k for a door trim and R11k for trim mould and R112k in total , just for parts.

I even went as far as checking it there were any F13's being stripped for spares, because the door is shared with the regular 6series. If you look at ebay, with shipping you can purchase a complete door skin for R20k, you can save that carbon trim by have it re-lacquered/resined/clear coated.

The excess of 10k alone is steep but i would definitely again speak to the ombudsman or your lawyer regarding the other R6800 they are trying to stiff you with. Lots of people have parking lot incidents. kerb wheels, damage their cars in parking malls etc, that doesnt mean you have to pay R6800 extra for something thats not even mentioned in your policy.

I agree 100%

Seems like they are replacing everything on the door with brand new parts which is extreme. This sounds like a quote they are expecting to have talked down by the insurance assessor. My feeling is if you asked for it quoted as a private job it would end up at more like 50K.

Thanks

Unfortunately the abs prices are all new bmw parts. I called called to check and it's inline with what I got.

New door is R39000 1 in stock in the whole country

That carbon trim is R10800, searched every scrap yard in pta today to find out.

Looks like they quoted a entire new door card.

I kicked up allot of stink yesterday, so have been finally been referred to ARC sandton.

Things are looking up.

To be been a stressful experience. Semi considered buying all the parts myself and just having it fixed. Seems like the legal action and the recorded lies forwarded to them put them in the spot to look after me.

Sad you have to fight to this extent to get your car fixed. Makes me worry what they would do in the event of a total loss.

I don't have trackers in any of my vehciles as If it gets stolen I don't want it back. Even thought old Mutual consent to you not having a tracker, I found out today if you get hijacked they won't pay.

Glad you are getting somewhere. I am also with OM and have not had any issues though, but this is scary. I claimed last year November for pothole damage and they basically replaced my entire front suspension on my F30. Just a month ago, hit another pothole - at night during loadshedding - and they are again sorting our front right side to the value of R30k. I am not direct with them, I work through brokers. I also do not have trackers because like you I do not want the car back. Where did you learn the info about not being covered in the event of hijacking? I received below info in line with what they have told you with my latest renewal docs.

Also with OMI and they have been great, claims always approved immediately. Checked with my broker and she said they will pay out in the event of a hijacking, no tracker required. Don't have trackers in any of my cars.

Also just confirmed in writing that they will pay for theft and/or hijacking even though i do not have trackers installed.

I suppose having the broker makes all the difference from the last two posts. Same insurer. Completely different experiences.
Honestly never knew it made such a difference to have a broker.

I recieved another estimate from ARC bmw sandton. This time for R25000.

Honestly concerned they trying to do a half job of repairing my vehicle. My car was pristine before this accident.

Decided I'm paying for the repairs out of pocket at a repairer of my choosing and finding a new insurer for all my vehicles.

ARC Sandton did an awesome job on my F22 when I was driven into. Damage a lot like yours was around R30k albeit 2 years ago.

They will let you know if any other damage after stripping and you need to accept new quote before work is actually done.
